I have recently updated my Plex server. I have removed all previous sync info from my server for this test. I have removed the phone as an Authorized Device on my server. I have removed the Plex app on my phone. I am attempting to provide the cleanest logs that display the problem as close to an initial setup as I can achieve.
I just installed the app on my phone. I signed in with my Plex login.
I changed a few settings in the app. My goal is to use the app as a music player only. I want Plex to sync music to my phone so I can listen to it in the mountains with no data connection.
Now I started the sync from my phone. I had it sync the entire music library. I checked the server to make sure that the sync has started.
Everything looks good so far. The songs are converting and being sent to my phone. The phone was added automatically to the list of Authorized Devices list on the server.
I will now plug my phone into a charger and wait for the sync to finish.
I am currently on my home wifi.

The sync is done.
I tried to play a song from the server as the source. It will not play any music.
“An error occurred while playing this item.” That error message keeps reappearing at the bottom of the screen.
I tried to play a different song. A bunch of song titles quickly scrolled across the screen. nothing played. the Plex app appears to reset back to the home screen.
I am unable to play any music if it streams from the server.
I attempted to play music from the device. “Downloads & Sync”
This worked well. I skipped to the next song.
No problems.
I tried playing different songs and everything worked well.
I rebooted my phone.
I verified that the phone is offline. I can play music from the device after a sync with no problems.
What did I learn?
Remove all sync info. Removed the app. Remove the Authorized Device from the server.
A fresh reset of each piece seems to fix the problem for me and my situation.
In this test. If you sync items to the device. Plex can no longer stream the same music from the server.
Honestly, this kinda fixed my problem. I wanted to play music offline. I was trying to recreate a different problem when I created this tread.
