The Ability to Move Videos

I have a feature request, the ability to move video between categories.

Sometimes things get placed in the wrong area when downloading, allow a check box to be selected and move videos (and their metadata) to another section/category.

The current solution is needlessly hard.

I'd like plex web to allow me to move files to a new category/location. It's rather frustrating to lose the manual changes I've made to a poor match, and whether I've watched a movie before or not, etc.

Thanks,

Joseph Elwell.

Above is not for moving a movie, but a whole library, IMHO

To move a single movie, simply move the file to it's new location, and scan the destination section

After a match, your customization should be intact, and you then scan the source section, followed by an empty trash

To move to a new category, simply remove the old category from it, and add the new....no loss of data

Your steps are a subset of the steps I linked to. The functionality to move one movie is the the same as moving one movie plus another movie, which is the same as moving 2 movies plus another one. N+1...

Your steps are lacking, or the linked steps are needlessly long.

jobenso says section/category, and refers to metadata. I suspect he and I are discussing the same feature, which is moving media from one disk location to another without losing metadata.

If it's so easy (you list only 2 steps), why not make it available via plex web, or some other plex interface (pht, etc)?

Unfortuately for my personal negative experience this is not working properly: personalizations get easily lost when moving media to a new location. It's possible to correct this by merging manually the old entry with the new one though. This is not so comfortable -mildly said - and not working when you move media to different library.

Moving media between libraries always mean new indexing and losing personalizations.

Exactly, since we have no parental controls... I have areas that are kid friendly, sometimes those movies end up in the main section (or vice versa) and allowing my to click on the tile and move it to another library would solve problems. I can actually give this control over to others as well, without giving them access to my PC. Indexes and settings could also be saved, this way nothing gets lost. Seems simple right? Click a checkbox on section screen, allowing you to pick as many as you would like to move, prompt the user for the correct new section and move the file and it's metadata to the right place. Its really a simple thing to do...
