The application was unable to start correctly (0xC000007B) after Windows update 1909

Server Version: 1.19.3.2843

After an automated Windows update to 1909 my Plex server stopped working:
Plex Startup Error

There is nothing in the Crash Reports Folder. I can’t find anything related in the Windows Event Viewer. When starting through the Terminal there are also no logs on screen.

In the AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Logs Folder are only files from May 13th 2020 and older except for the Plex Update Service.log files which are as recent as today. Here is the Plex Media Server.log (97.9 KB) from May 13. 2020.

I already tried:

  • Rebooting
  • Repairing the installation through the controlpanel and with the setup exe file
  • Reinstalling Plex (both 1.19.3.2843 and 1.19.4.2865)
  • Uninstalling, removing all Registry entries and the Plex Media Server Folder under AppData\Local (got the information from: here and here) and then installing again
  • Reinstalling all Visual C++ Redistributables (2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015-2019) all in the 32 and 64 bit versions

If I can provide you with any other helpful Information I am glad to do so :slightly_smiling_face:

Come on, I paid for your Software… Is nobody able to help me?

I found those 2 solutions on Microsoft’s side:

  1. https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/How-to-fix-the-error-39318dc4
  2. https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/How-to-fix-the-error-3ba462b5

Thank you for your response.

Solution 1 # 1. Reinstall the corrupt application to fix the error “The application could not start correctly”

…which I already did (multiple times)

Solution number 2. Reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5

Tried this yesterday, with restarts between uninstallation (.NET and PMS), and installation (.Net and PMS) → Same error as before…

Solution number 3.

  1. Right click on the Windows key and select Control Panel.
  2. Open the Programs and Features section and remove all Microsoft Visual C ++ Redistributable Package objects.
  3. Then go to the official Microsoft website and install the Microsoft Visual C ++ Redistributable Packages manually.

…which I also already did (2 times)

Do you have andy further ideas?
