Okay, then it does not sound like he never removed your access to the old server. He just has it shut off. But as far as why you cannot play things off the new server on the FireTV app, I do not know. It’s possible the old server was not being kept updated and so it was running an older version of Plex Media Server, and now there is an issue with the Fire TV app using the newer version of Plex Media Server he is on now.
I personally am not using the current Plex Media Server. My main server is a 1.16 version still, and my testing server is a 1.18, but it’s not the current version either. I use Fire TV app 1.23.something, because I have a specific bug that happens with newer versions of the app and my old 1.16 server.
Since a Fire Stick is so portable, you could take it to his house to see if it works when it is on his local network and have him help figure it out.
Note: 1.18.7.2457 is the current public Plex Media Server version, and he’s using the same app version you are. I don’t know what server version your friend is using now, but it’s very possible you are experiencing this same problem as this other user.
How do you find out what one’s PLEX Media Server (I now do not think it is my friend’s server; we must all get a server with getting PLEX) version is? & how does one restart it?
As far as rebooting the server, it depends what OS the sever is on. I generally restart mine from a shell or SSH session. But if it’s on Windows or macOS you can just Exit/Quit and relaunch the program.
