Okay I’m not sure which tags to use on this… I’m putting The Wolfman (1941) up on my server but its coming up as the Frankstein Meets the Wolfman (1943). I’m going to do some more digging to see if I can correct the meta data but I’m wondering if anyone has seen a similar issue.
Ran a quick test on my system. Note Wolfman
vs Wolf Man
.
/The Wolfman (1941)/The Wolfman (1941).mkv matches Frankenstein Meets…
/The Wolf Man (1941)/The Wolf Man (1941).mkv matches correctly.
Plex Dance the file after renaming to remove incorrect metadata from the Plex database.
I went through and added everything manually. Will it mess anything up if I correct the naming as you suggest?

If you performed a Fix Match, then Plex recognizes the movie as The Wolf Man, and the metadata downloaded from the Plex servers will be the same as if you rename and Plex Dance the movie.
-
If you did not perform a Fix Match, then Plex still recognizes the movie as Frankenstein Meets…, and it will show the actors from Frankenstein Meets…, not The Wolf Man.
-
Either way, performing the Plex Dance removes all existing information about the movie from your system, including any customizations you have performed. It is as if the movie was never put into your server (The purpose of the Plex Dance is to remove incorrect matches & metadata).

If you performed a Fix Match, then added your own information, you can add a correctly named copy of the movie to your system. Plex will recognize it as a duplicate. Once that happens, you can remove the incorrectly named version. Plex will keep any custom naming, etc. you added.
The process would be:
a) add a correctly named version to your server.
b) scan the library to pick up the new file.
c) make sure Plex picks it up as a duplicate (Filter for Duplicates instead of All in Plex Web).
d) remove the incorrectly named file.
e) scan to pick up changes. -
This is how the movie looks on my system, using The Wolf Man (1941).mkv:
The naming convention change combined with match fix worked! Thanks a lot!
