TheTVDB metadata - V3 API and related issues

@ChuckPa
All now working for me. I’d like to take the opportunity to thank you for your help and patience on here. Can you also pass along my thanks to all the developers who’ve been working to get this sorted? As a developer myself, I know how often praise fails to make it to those in the back room.

If it helps anyone else, I’m running the latest 2058 on Windows Server 2016.
The process I followed was basically a full “reset”, like so:

  • Stop PMS
  • Delete the tvdb cache (on Windows, delete the folder C:\Users<username>\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support > Caches\com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb
  • Start PMS
  • Perform a Refresh All Metadata on the library

I found that clearing the cache was critical as a few things were still missing until I did.

Thanks for the reply. I’m on a QNAP TS-859 Pro+ (QTS 4.2.6) running PMS 1.14.1.5488. I work in IT so I would like to think I could make the required changes if instructions were provided. Thanks for your help!

This is great ~ I sense things are working again … I’m running Plex on a Synology with the latest version of Plex (updated a month back) ~can someone spell out the process for us to get everything (including posters) working again — thanks

  1. Download current Public (it’s patched to go beyond what TheTVDB is doing for us)
  2. Install
  3. Go to each impacted section
  4. Refresh All Metadata
  5. Let it finish. (it will take a while… It runs in the background)

It only worked for me when I cleared my cache. If you can’t get it working by just refreshing all metadata, do it and it should solve the missing posters and thumbnails

Is there a way to fix this on Shield?

The poster downloading seems to be ignoring language preferences. No idea if that would be on the Plex side or TVDB side. But I’ve ended up with some random languages for my posters. The TV show See for example. The Show poster looks correct but the season poster seems to be Russian.

No joy. I kicked off the full library refresh as soon as I saw your suggestion. That was 9 hours ago and the operation has completed. Yet, no posters for any new additions. I get all the rest of the metadata from text to episode thumbnails, just no posters.

To fix on the shield - Install the update; run the same Refresh All Metadata.
Clearing the Cache is awkward.

I just got the shield here this afternoon.
Learning how to break into it and do what I need now.
I’ll find an easy way if it exists.

@ChuckPa

The steps you have provided are not working in all cases. I did exactly as you recommend and TV shows I’ve added over the last few days are still failing to download series and season posters. I can see them on TheTVDB.com and I’m getting all metadata except the posters.

If it matters, I’m using a Synology DS1819+ NAS. I have also tried Settings > Troubleshooting > [OPTIMIZE DATABASE] and [CLEAN BUNDLES], then re-ran the Refresh All Metadata again. Still no joy.

I have also tested adding an entirely new series to the library (3 seasons). Again, it successfully downloaded all metadata except posters.

I deleted all the cache files and it worked – did you try that

Just an FYI (since you’ve been so busy and might have missed a communication with the team), the SHIELD update rolls out on Monday according to the announcement (@SneakyLex, that should answer your question also).

As has been said multiple times in this thread, thanks for all the work you and the team have put in on resolving this.

@techmattr I recall seeing something regarding the V3 API having some kind of issue regarding language. Since I read it quickly and I don’t recall where it was (i.e., somewhere on these forums, an article or possibly on TheTVDB’s forums) I can’t be 100%, but just wanted to throw that possibility out there.

This keeps coming up whenever I try to find the Fate Stay Night Heaven’s Feel movie no matter what I search. So I can’t get the info for the 2nd movie at all.

This is for TheTVDB, not movies.

Please:

  1. Verify the naming is per spec.
  2. Verify there is no embedded metadata corrupting the match process.
  3. Create a separate thread as needed.

@ChuckPa Yet this shows up on TVDB as its classified as a show

I would also like it to be known that I have gotten the first video to be added already to plex and plex did properly recognize it and added all of its info. This was prior to the change to tvdb’s site.

I think this is a case of the trilogy having been inappropriately entered into the database at TheTVDB. Such errata do occur.

As reference I cite.

In all three definitions, It is referred to as film which is indicative of a movie.

For-Television movies still belong in the movies section.

Please now take this to a separate thread. The curation of TheTVDB is not the topic of this thread.

I’ve taken it up with TVDB staff however and they have themselves said otherwise. They originally had it under the Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works entry until they decided to give them their own entries within the database. An none of my other TVDB entries are working for any other new shows at all.

Please create a separate thread. This is an exception case.

@ChuckPa, I offer only a small revision to your steps. Step four to refresh all metadata should read as refresh all metadata for the library where the artwork is missing. I updated my PMS and tried refreshing metadata for the show I was missing artwork, no joy. I did a refresh of metadata on the library for which the show was contained, joy!
I thank you and the TVDB dev’s (@scottzsori ) that worked on this issue!
