Tidal on the Plex Roku

looking at the Tidal, I see it on the browser, android and apple devices however do not find it on the roku’s that i use to connect to the media server. Am I missing it?

Tidal is not available on Roku, yet.

Is there an ETA for the Roku and Tidal? The beauty of Plex is it’s support on all clients. You add a new feature and “poof” it’s available everywhere. It looks like this model is breaking down :frowning:

It’s never worked like that in reality. Some clients always get stuff before others. Though we try each app has different things to take care of and hurdles to overcome. The mobile apps are the ones most folks listen to music on so they were implemented first.

I’m sorry there is no ETA but this will get updated as more apps get support Plex Apps that Support TIDAL and the Roku release notes will have it there when it happens as well Plex for Roku

I completely understand your comment about the mobile platform - but TIDAL has a full featured client on Android and IOS - it does not however have a client on Roku. So, you can understand the frustration of home users who have their Roku system tied into their home stereo unable to listen to their new shiny Tidal subscription - except on their cell phone (where again, the Tidal client is available) or on their PCs (where again the Tidal client is available). Not to mention that Roku has the largest marketshare and active deployment of all the streaming platforms, by a mile - yet when going back through my notes, it always seems that the Roku platform lags when getting new features (which you alluded to in your comment).

Everyone is always frustrated when the feature they want does not come first to the player they use. It is of course understandable. But it is not due to lack of caring about our Roku users.

The mobile app teams and the the Roku team are completely different people working on completely different code. We don’t stop working on one to work on another.

Our Roku app just went though a complete rewrite of it’s entire codebase because if we didn’t there would be no Roku app soon at all. Because all apps will be required by Roku to be written in the the new code. Now that they are done with that they will be working on leveling up the player and features. Many will have opinions about what feature should be next. Most Plex Roku users I am guessing if they read this topic will say today, (recent GUI comments aside), “I don’t use Tidal where is my Live TV Grid view” or some other existing feature that they have been waiting for longer than we have had Tidal.

To be clear, this is not a post to say something like “Stop your complaining”, I get the frustration. Only explaining that we release when things are done on any given platform as soon as we can. And due to many different variables some platforms will get things sooner or later than others.

Damn, wish I’d read this thread earlier. I’ve just finnished setting up a Tidal account for use on my Plex running on a Roku 3.
What a waste of time that was

Hopefully, they won’t take forever to get the Roku working

It is there in update to the preview channel (preview basically means beta). they got it done quicker than I thought they would Plex for Roku

How do use Tidal with Roku, I only see 2 new realeses on Tidal and thas it. I have a Tidal subscription and Plex Pass.

There is an early preview of the Roku app. Linked in my post above. I don’t know when it will be on regular channel usually about a week or so.

I just updated the Roku preview channel and it shows the Tidal albums but when you click on one you get: Content Unavailable - Sorry, we couldn’t load the requested content.

I think it stills need a bit of work.

Does this happen for all albums? I’m having trouble relocating this, could be specific to some albums. Are you able to view the album that fails in Plex Web, or does it fail there?

It works fine in the web app and on android. I tried quite a few different albums. I have 2 Rokus and I am seeing the same behavior on both. It might have to do with I cancelled the Tidal subscription until I was sure it would be working on my Rokus. But the Subscription page says: “You currently have a TIDAL HiFi subscription”. (I’m still running on the free trial).

Here is a snapshot of seeing the Albums

And then after I click on the album

Sure it does.

This makes more sense. Your screenshot indicates these are augmented hubs from tidal, provided by the local PMS. When you click on them it tries to load those directly from TIDAL, which is failing.

What happens if you go to the music type on the top header, go down the the source row, and scroll to the one that says TIDAL.

By the source row are you referring to the hubs? There are a bunch of hubs after clicking on the music icon but none related to Tidal.

There are thing like RECENTLY PLAYED MUSIC, RECENTLY ADDED MUSIC and ARTISTS ON TOUR but nothing with Tidal in it. Strangely there is a hub MOST PLAYED IN MARCH which seems pretty random.

I think I know what’s going on here, sorry for the troubles. Stay tuned, I should have something soon.

@chagar I believe we have fixed the issue in the backend. Could you please try closing and launching the Plex for Roku channel again? The TIDAL albums should work, and you should see a new source underneath the Music types when you are focused on it, allowing you to browse TIDAL directly.

Yes now is working.
