Tidal questions - PlexAmp and Family

not sure where to put this query.

I currently subscribe to Spotify with the family plan. I am quite keen to change that for Tidal - and the Plex offer looks good. However, there is no Family plan option for the offer?

Also - when I compare the Hifi and Hifi+ plans - other than the bitrate difference (Hifi would be sufficient to my needs) - what does it mean that Tidal is only supported with the Hifi+ plan in combination with the PlexAmp?

Finally - and this is more a Tidal in itself question - where can I get a glimpse of the library contents prior to signing up for a trial?

Thanks!

I’m not a Tidal subscriber but there used to be a way to search Tidal from within Plex. That option seems to have been removed.

TIDAL does not offer family plans via partners.

If you have a TIDAL family plan, you can link it to individual Plex accounts.

There are other restrictions as well. For example, you cannot purchase or download TIDAL music via the Plex apps. Also, the Plex apps cannot access MQA/Atmos/Sony360 audio. Review the Plex TIDAL documentation for additional details

If I link/add a TIDAL subscription to my account, is it shared with other users?

Having a TIDAL subscription linked to a Plex account is a 1:1 relationship. The Plex account to which it is linked will have access to TIDAL content. Shared accounts (including Plex Home members) will not have access to TIDAL.

If you already have a “Family HiFi” or “Family HiFi Plus” TIDAL plan through TIDAL, you can link to a different Plex account for each of the available TIDAL members. (See information on how to link to an existing subscription in our Adding TIDAL Subscriptions to Plex article.)

→ Adding TIDAL Subscriptions to Plex

TIDAL does not currently offer “Family” plans through partners such as Plex.

What about TIDAL “Family” plans?

We are not currently able to offer “Family HiFi” or “Family HiFi Plus” TIDAL plans, sorry. If you already have such a plan through TIDAL, you can link to a different Plex account for each of the available TIDAL members. See the information earlier about linking to an existing TIDAL subscription for access.

Thanks - ok, that all makes sense. I would subscribe to Tidal Family plan on Tidal directly, and then have the family members link the accounts directly to Plex. That should not be an issue.

However, if Plexamp requires a Tidal HiFi+ subscription to work, that would a problem. A few dollars more than Spotify for FLAC quality is fine with me - but the extra cost for HiFi+ and the high res, I cannot justify that.

As for the library of Tidal - if I can use HiFi subscription (not HiFi+) on PlexAmp - I will sign up for a trial… Guess we will find out then.

Where did you see this?

I do not see any such restriction mentioned in the documentation.

Also, given that Plex cannot access MQA/Atmos/Sony 360 audio, it does not make sense.

I saw it here: https://www.plex.tv/en-au/music/?langr=1#tidal-plans-pp-compare

Thank you. I had not seen that.

It could be an error. Or I am just not interpreting it correctly.

I’m not sure. I was going by what I saw in the documentation. I could have missed something, be wrong, etc.

I’ll ping some people tomorrow and ask (late here in the US and even later in Europe).

You have a Plex Pass so you and anyone in your Plex Home (full and managed accounts) can use Plex Amp. You don’t need to buy Tidal through us to use Plex Amp

Hifi+ through us is just the only way without a PlexPass that a user can use Plexamp. Hifi+ users without Plex Pass can use Plexamp but not other Plex Pass features.
