TIPS/SOLVED - Managed to run DTS audio on PHT on QNAP TS-453Be

This is a tips post and hopefully will help someone.

Plex Media Server Version#: 1.15.4.993
Plex Player Version#: Plex Home Theatre 1.4.2.100 (from QNAP App Center)
QNAP HD Station version#: 3.2.10

Issue:

  • The video is fast forwarded and no audio when DTS audio is selected using Plex Home Theatre on QNAP TS-453Be inside HD Station
  • When DTS is not selected, the audio works, but only PCM 2.0
  • Audio output device shows “PulseAudio” and you cannot see your audio receiver (onkyo / denon)

Steps:

  1. Enable SSH on the server
  2. Login to the server through SSH
  3. Get the Plex_Media_Server install path
    (for me, it returns “/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/Plex_Home_Theater”)

getcfg -f /etc/config/qpkg.conf Plex_Home_Theater Install_path

  1. Go to that folder and edit

startup_Plex_Home_Theater.sh

  1. Add the following in the last line:

export AE_ENGINE=SOFT

  1. Restart Plex Home Theater application
  2. Go to settings > Audio Output > Audio Output device
    Change the correct HDMI port (you can also see your correct receiver)
