Tivo Stream 4k Client, Is it worth it?

So I’ve been testing out the Tivo Stream 4k Client and it’s actually pretty good! I have three Nvidia Shields to compare. It’s not as fast but it’s taken everything I’ve thrown at it including 4k and live tv. For $29 on clearance at Wally World it’s worth it. It’s better than my Fire Sticks and rokus in my opinion and great for the price point! Just wanted to throw this out there for anyone looking for a client device, especially when using live TV without transcoding.

Hah! I went to get one, but they said some guy named “Jason” had just cleaned them out. /s

Thanks for the recommendation; I’m going to try one. That device has really decent specs for $29!

Do you happen to have a DV-capable TV? Have you tested DV on the Stream?

@Volts yeah you’ll have to try a different Walmart, I did wipe one out haha. I have many TVs and they all seem to work fine. My LG C7 OLED has Dolby vision and it runs just fine.

Nice!

Have you tested DV Profile 7 (from a UHD Blu-Ray w/ DV) on the TiVo Stream?

Not sure how to test that, I just know that the TV as soon as it turns on it activates Dolby vision on all content with the TiVo stream 4K. The biggest issue I had was during set up the remote kept disconnecting and needing to be repaired. But it hasn’t done that after the initial setup since.

That’s very interesting. The TV stays in DV mode all the time, whether you’re watching SDR or HDR content?

This is Plex for Android, correct? During playback, is there a detailed statistics screen?

(There aren’t any at my local store, but there are some a town over. I’ll pick one up in the next few days.)

Correct even when you watching standard definition TV. But it all looks great. If I’m not mistaken the firestick 4K did something similar to this. Yes there is a Details page but if you’re familiar with Emby it’s not as detailed like theirs. It’s just very basic information.

I see some comments on /r/TiVo that it’s possible to configure DV and HDR to use an Auto mode, and turn on and off depending on the content being watched - that’s reassuring.

When I open the Plex app on my TiVo Stream 4K, it only shows one screen with all recently added contents.

How can I show the side bar to select movies, TV shows, etc. to see the list of shows in a grid? I tried to press left on the round button, and also the little back arrow but nothing happens.

Another thing too, does it support family profiles like on the Roku? I have profiles for my family members but it doesn’t ask me to choose at startup.

------ Update (8/22/2021) ------

I checked earlier today and it worked fine. Not sure exactly what happened, maybe there was an update.
