Thanks for confirming - given Plex have never acknowledged or participated in this thread we may be waiting a while for a fix?
Same here
If I remember correct it was working fine yesterday. Today the Plex app updated and there is no Top Shelf. Just the Plex logo.
Same here. All the usual tricks no longer work.
I guess its no longer a bug if you just remove the feature altogether.
Yep, I guess that was one way to shut us all up - after trying to just ignore this thread and us altogether …
Maybe we can persuade @elan to buy an Apple TV and then maybe he’ll want the feature? ![]()
But I’m all out of ideas at this point … apart from wait and hope!
@Stevenson-Price @sergiou87 @hsousa
Hi all - you guys were the last 3 to post AppleTV updates. Are you able to comment on this?
@BigWheel, @DaveBinM, @anon18523487, @randhawk, @chrisc are other Plex employees who have answered Apple TV stuff recently. Maybe one of them would be kind enough to look at this thread and feed the issue to the appropriate Dev team. It’s a really annoying bug that Top Shelf has suddenly just stopped working for Plex with 7.10 …
I don’t use Apple TV but I’ve pinged the team about it.
Hi, we’re aware of issues with Top Shelf on recent tvOS versions and have been working to resolve them. The next update (7.11) should have a fix.
Hi - that’s great, thanks for the update!
I have been made aware that I should have not pinged 3 people the way I did, so please accept my apologies if I have broken etiquette or offended anyone. It was certainly not meant as a machine-gun to waste people’s time, although I can see how it could have come across that way.
[edited for a typo and the quote]
Thanks for the response and update, it is much appreciated.
I likewise apologise for randomly pinging Plex team members.
Great.
Many thanks!
it’s my daily driver. just don’t use the top shelf thing, which i find to be a pretty gimmicky part of tvOS ![]()
Personally, I love the Top Shelf feature…when it works. It’s an easy way to see (and go to) videos from the Continue Watching section without having to go into the Plex app on Apple TV. It really was very useful, which is why so many of us are missing this feature.
It may seem gimmicky or unimportant visually, but navigationally it feels like a superior way to quickly & efficiently jump right into Continue Watching, On Deck, or Recently Added without having to open the app and navigate. I must admit I’m surprised you don’t have your own company’s app on the top row of your daily STB and haven’t noticed this detracting behavior in the app/product. Don’t get me wrong, I love Plex and what you guys do - thank you for a wonderful product. I appreciate you have listened and provided feedback here on this forum.
Agreed on how valuable it is, and how smooth it makes the experience.
I don’t think the inconsistency is 100% Plex’s issue. I occasionally see nonsense in Top Shelf for even Apple’s TV app and for Apple TV shows.
it is very much in the top row, i just don’t pay attention to the top shelf because i’m eager to get into the app.
i’m not saying my opinion is the only one, or ever the correct one, just explaining how i personally didn’t notice any issue with it while still being my daily driver.
I’m definitely in the “find it useful and more efficient / less button presses” camp.
But MUCH more importantly, my Partner missed it instantly, complained loudly, and accused me of “breaking the Apple TV - AGAIN” (“with all your hare-brained beta testing and tinkering”)

If any of you are signed up for the betas - reverting to the final beta of version 7.9 (21968) instantly brought my Top Shelf back, if you can’t live without it until (hopefully) the first beta build of 7.11 drops …
Thanks. That worked for me too. Looking forward to 7.11.
Oddly the Plex Movies show up in the top shelf, but nothing from my personal media library. It started working after the most recent update, then stopped working again.
On the side note, how can I obtain my beta credentials back. I accidentally stopped the testing after I reset my Apple TV. Every time I try to rejoin it shows beta full. With beta, just falling back to previous builds would instantly restore the top shelf, at least a quick workaround was working perfectly.
