Toshiba Fire TV edition

I’ve sideloaded the version of Plex from this thread:

It appears to be running fine so far.

Just bought a Toshiba Fire TV … same issues as all on this thread … disappointing :frowning:

Just spent an hour with Toshiba Tech who had no answers

Will try side loading …

** UPDATE **
No Luck still …
I need a URL to put into the downloader app … but can’t get to this

I’m using the " Amazon Fire TV Utility App" to sideload Plex. I’ve been successful on 3 Fire Edition TV’s so far.

Thx revsmitty

I was able to locate the old version PLEX 7.11.3.9220 apk file
the latest version has a lot of complaints so avoided this

I downloaded the file, put on a server and then used the Downloader app on the fire tv to sucessfully install

There are some you tube videos on how to install apk files on Fire TV

Once I did this … I now have the PLEX app on my NEW Toshiba Fire TV … Wahoo !

Only complaint is the App won’t show (yet) on my recent apps list
But atleast I can get around this

Hope this helps someone else

Wow amazing, thanks for the reply! Could you share the link to the server? I have the downloaded app installed.

We are using the apk from here:

I would avoid the newer versions for now. I had issues with the newer versions on the Insignia version of these TV’s playing media.

duztin, use the link from revsmitty’s post

I can post a link to my server / file … but you shouldn’t use it (non-trusted)
So you should find from a reputable source

You just need a url link to the .apk file for downloader to get at it

Alright, now I might be asking for too much, but how did you get the Plex shortcut on your apps? Weird it is installed, it does work, but to open Plex seems like I have to download the file each time…

True that lol, I figured we were all cool here
That solution worked for me, I’m just stuck on the short cut part.

It actually started showing up for me on its on in the apps section. It took around 20 minutes or so. Not really sure if I was doing something else that triggered that.

Just got a Toshiba 32LF221U19 and have the same issue. I grabbed the APK from one of my Fire Stick 4Ks and side loaded it on the Toshiba. I’m able to authenticate the device and browse my library, but everything I attempt to play just errors out immediately. I did try the very latest version from APKMirror but had the same issue. I’ll try one of the older versions recommended next.

EDIT: Plex 7.11.3.9220 from APKMirror did the trick!

Strange, I’ll wait it out. If nothing else I can do it the other way. Just glad we found a workaround :metal:t2:
Thanks for all the help

Update: Rebooted the tv and it showed up :raised_hands:t2:

Plex 7.11.3.9220 - via Downloader App - armeabi-v7a https://apkpure.com/plex/com.plexapp.android/variant/7.11.3.9220-APK - worked for me thanks!

From the product standpoint, is this working as intended (eg, non-supported device), or should indeed Plex be listed on the Amazon application store for Fire TV?

The app currently won’t run properly on these devices so the app has been made unavailable for these devices. We are working to get the app running properly and will make the app available once that is done. We have no ETA for this.

Sideloading … the old app 6.12.0.3239 seems to work well for me.
and after a few days, this app also now shows in my recent apps on my dashboard.

Will still hope the NEW app is released soon and is actually working as intended.

Does anyone have a link to download a working copy of the plex apk to sideload onto the Toshiba Fire TV?

READ above … links posted above

Thanks. When I posted the question I was trying the links above as written in this thread and they didn’t work. Since posting I checked the links on my desktop PC and then modified to the direct link to the APKs.

As an imperfect workaround I installed the VLC app which is able to connect to the plex server and able to browse and play my content.
