I just tried to get a NUC717 working with PMP and couldn’t get 7.1 audio working…I am going to try the HDMI firmware, is this a lost cause?

Are you using Windows or Embedded PMP?
I am using embedded PMP. If it works in Windows I guess I can try that, but I like that embedded has a high WAF since it just works without doing anything.
I can see Windows causing issues with pop-ups, updates, not auto starting in full screen…that wouldn’t go over well.

You will have to wait for LE9 to finish and Plex to rebase on it. You can also load LE9 and load Plex for Kodi but both are still alpha/beta.
Sorry, no idea what LE9 is… I would say unless there is instructions on doing this I might scrap the NUC and wait for the next model…or look at a different device the can do 4k and ATMOS.

I suggest you get a Shield if you are after 4K HDR and Atmos. For the time being what you want out of the NUC is beyond reach for the average user. It is a work in progress.
I assume your talking about the shield TV correct? I would guess I only need the 16 GB since I will not store anything on it.

Correct
Any news on this? Still have a Nuc that I would like to use as a player
@Achilles would love any update you might be able to share about LE9 adoption/release timelines? (I understand Plex will need to rebase on it when available - just trying to get a sense of where we are. Getting really tired of Windows on the Media NUC.
I only see they are up to LE 8.2.5, https://libreelec.tv/downloads/.
But I am wondering if this release has the updates needed?
I am not savvy enough in Linux to know.
The other question is still which version of LibreElec Plex gets updated on?
I’m sure not every version release there is a Plex update.
Here’s a version release schedule:
https://libreelec.wiki/releases
LibreELEC 9.0.x includes Kodi 18.x (mid 2018)
Like you I am also waiting for LE devs to release LE9 stable.
@Achilles
I have been trying to find out anything about the Plex Embedded update schedule.
I wanted to find out if there will be an update to the Embedded platform once LE9 comes out or if we’re all waiting for nothing.
I posted elsewhere in the forums, but no answer.
LE9 Alpha 3 is out and I just loaded the Plex for Kodi plug in. HD Audio passthrough works great on it. Also thanks to the works of an individual by the name of Carpalis, VAAPI VC-1 now decodes 1080p without artifacts. He also worked with Intel OTC devs and ffmpeg devs to get VAAPI VC-1 interlaced decoding in HW.
That is just awesome. Do you know if that will work with just the newer NUC’s, or older ones too?
I have tested it on the Kaby Lake. I am going to try it on a Gemini Lake shortly. It should work with older NUCs that have support for VC-1.
For all that want to try LE9 Alpha 3 + Plex for Kodi

Nice.
Time to dig out the htpc again. I was a big fan of PfK before development stalled temporarily.
The Shield and ATV 4K are great devices using the native apps or indeed MrMC…they’re all most of the way there but not quite.
But I have always missed my embedded OS, so thanks for the heads up.
Project for tomorrow sorted.
Hi @Achilles
So this update to LE9 works with Kodi installed and the Plex plugin for Kodi installed. Do you know if any updates to Plex Embedded to work with LE9 Alpha, with functional audio passthrough?
I am also interested to know when PMP embedded will have the LE9? any word?
@Achilles
