Trailers not playing until the end; they are being cut short

Server Version#: 1.15.0.659
Player Version#: 3.83.1

Is anyone else experiencing the problem of the trailers being clipped, or not playing until the end?
I noticed this a few iterations ?three? ago with PMP; I use it on my M$ Win10 machine.
I have not changed any settings from the past two - three years when the trailers played just fine.
Any thoughts/suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks!

Are these trailers from your own files
or are these provided automatically with your Plex pass?

Hello,

They are from the Plex Pass.

It is odd, they were working fine then…

I have no idea of the code behind their presentation, but it is almost like there is a timer.

The timer is reached and the trailer stops.

I realize many do not watch them, but I like them as it gives me ideas of movies to get.

Thanks for the personalized query.

Jeff

Is it always the same time stamp, where it is stopping (with different trailers)
or does the time vary?

Didn’t even think about that.

Let me check….

So, time on the left is how long it played, time on right of slash (/) is stated length of the trailer:

42/60

210/212

20/33

Are you using the TV or the Desktop mode of PMP?
I have tested it in both modes and I don’t experience the issue.
Are you actually using PMP (separate download below) or the web app?

PMP download and separate install: Version 3.83.1

Server: Version 1.15.0.659

Desktop mode

Web continues to give me this error on all trailers:

I do not use the TV mode at present; sidebar, do you know if there a set of commands to use for wifi remote control the PMP in TV mode?

I prefer RTI remotes and am looking to move away from IR…

Are you perhaps filtering internet access for the server in any way?
Because those trailers are not downloaded in advance to your server, they are streamed live upon you hitting Playback.

PMP supports Roku remotes natively (although I don’t know if that is gonna stay).
If your Remote can emulate a Roku remote, it is worth a try.

Apart from that, you can use any remote which can present itself to the computer as an “input device” of some sort. Either a keyboard, a game controller or a Windows Media Remote control.
Not all of these may be ready to use out-of-the-box, but they can be made to work (and also tailored to your use case) .
see https://support.plex.tv/articles/208052807-controlling-the-app/
and https://support.plex.tv/articles/216459997-create-your-own-inputmap/

I do not recall making any changes to my connections, internal or external.

Don’t know if this is relevant or not, but I am using the official Plex Docker server on unRAID.

I figured the trailers were being downloaded so I tried playing a few from YTube, IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, etc. and they played fine.

Which is what lead me to post the question.

I know it is strange, particularly that it just “happened” out of nowhere.

I appreciate your looking into it. It is probably something on my end; I just do not know what… yet.

Thanks!

Could you please recreate the issue
then wait a minute,
end PMP,
and fetch its log file https://support.plex.tv/articles/207338748-plex-media-player-logs/
zip it
and drag it into the message editor of this here forum
(please don’t respond per email. attachments won’t make it into here.)

I’m confused. Are you using Web or PMP (desktop mode)? Your original statement was trailers don’t play until the end in PMP, but then you say they don’t work at all. Do you mean they don’t work at all with Web, but work, just not to the end in PMP?

Apologies just got this.

I sure can.

I will do it this evening (EDT).

Hi,

Everything is as stated in earlier posts.

I was simply adding the statement that the “Web continues to give me this error on all trailers” to point out that the web interface does exactly the same thing as PMP in desktop mode; all trailers get cut off at random times towards the end of them.

Hope that helps clear any muddy waters.

Thanks for helping!

I’m still confused. These are both Web?

The software package that is installed as a stand-alone piece of software, downloaded from Plex, on my Win 10 Desktop, I am referring to as PMP (Plex Media Player).

The web browser, in this case, Firefox, is connected to the server which serves up the Plex web page interface.

So, despite one being an installed package downloaded from Plex, and one is simply a web page, I was trying to illustrate that there is no discernable difference between the PMP install and the web interface when it comes to the trailers, not finishing.

Hope that helps clear things up.

I get that with PMP you get the trailer not finishing.

My confusion was trying to understand what the issue is with Plex Web (the web page). You say that when using Plex Web, you get the Playback Error you posted above.

But then you also say that with the web page you get the same behavior of the trailer not finishing as you do with PMP.

So when using the web page, are you getting the Playback Error message or the trailer not finishing? Or is that error message what you see when the trailer stops? Just trying to understand if that error is something else or related to the trailer not finishing.
