Trailers Unavailable. Try Again Later

Hello,

First let me say that I have really enjoyed using this hack.  I'm always amazed at the creativity and ingenuity of you coders.  I am not a coder myself, so please forgive me if my issue seems trivial.  I have combed the blogs to find a solution to this issue but none of the recommended fixes worked for my particular situation.

Issue:  "Trailers" in ATV was working awesome with my PMS for a few weeks and then suddenly I'm getting the error "Trailers Unavailable. Try Again Later."

PMS Configuration

Version:           0.9.11.4.739-a4e710f

OS:                  Windows 8.1

IP:                    192.168.1.4

Storage:          Western Digital NAS EX-4

Plex Media Server seems to be working fine, although I did have a few slight issues after upgrading. However, after a few server restarts and PMS restarts, it's working fine.  It is accessible outside my network via XBox, Vizio TV, Roku, etc. (luckily, otherwise my friends and family would be calling me every 4 minutes!).

Apple TV

Model:             MC572LL/A

ATV Software: 6.2.1 (6698.99.50.41)

IP:                    192.169.1.6

DNS:               192.168.1.4 (manually)

All apps on ATV (Movies, Netflix, etc.) work fine with the DNS set manually to 192.168.1.4 (PMS) and of course it works fine with DNS set to auto.

PlexConnect

I installed it as per the instructions online and it worked like a dream for a few weeks.  Now I’m getting an error.

In the command window for PlexConnect I can see the DNS request coming through and they appear to be successful.

PlexConnect Location:  C:\Program Files (x86)\PlexConnect-master

What I’ve Tried So Far

  • Reinstalling PlexConnect
  • Recreating the certificates
  • Editing the “Settings.cfg” file:
    • Changed “enable_plexgdm = True” to “enable_plexgdm = False” and “ip_pms = 192.168.178.10” to “ip_pms = 192.168.1.4”
  • Changed ATV back to its original settings, restarted a few times, and changed it back.  ATV’s other apps still function, but not “Trailers”.
  • Turned off Firewall and Windows Defender on PMS
  • Reboot Router
  • Update AppleTV software (5.2.1 -> 6.2.1)

None of the above fixed the issue and I still see “Trailers is Unavailable. Please Try Again”.

I have attached a PlexConnect log.   PlexConnect log.txt (4.3 KB)

Please help!

Thanks,

Matt

The new plex server update now implements users so you need to sign into the plex in plex connect.

Also if you recreated the certificates you need to ensure that you delete the profile on the ATV prior to reloading the new ones, overwriting them will not work.

How do I do that?  The instructions for PlexConnect don't include this step (at least the instructions I followed).

Also if you recreated the certificates you need to ensure that you delete the profile on the ATV prior to reloading the new ones, overwriting them will not work.

Can you help me understand how to delete the profile on ATV?  At this point I'll delete all profiles on ATV and create a brand new profile with new certs so there's no confusion.

Thanks for the help, folks.

Signing in on PlexConnect is easy.  You just go to the settings in the trailers (PlexConnect) app on the Apple TV.  In the settings you'll see a place to sign in.

I recently upgraded to .9.11.4 and my PlexConnect no longer works.  I've seen a couple posts saying that signing in will fix that but it didn't for me.

PMS 0.9.11.4 works here... did you set up this "Plex Home"? Because I didn't... :-)

How about logs?

These 2 replies regarding signing into Plex in the Trailers app do not apply to the error "Trailers Unavailable" because you cannot pass through this error to get to the settings in the Trailers app.  It never lets you in.

Deleting the profile in Apple, recreating and re-applying the certificates did work.  Here are the steps I followed to fix this issue:

1.  On ATV -  go to Settings/General/Profiles and delete the trailers.apple.com profile.

2.  On PMS server

2a.  Shut down PlexConnect (ctl+c)

2b. In the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\PlexConnect-master\assets\certificates" (or wherever your certificates are stored, delete the trailers.pem and trailers.cer files.

2c.  Follow guideline for creating certificates  https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/wiki/Install-Guide-Windows-Certificates

2d.  Run PlexConnect

3.  On ATV

3a. Follow guidelines for applying certificates in ATV  https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/wiki/Install-Guide-Certificate-via-Ethernet

3b. In PlexConnect, go to settings and sign in with your Plex username/pw.

Thanks all for the hints/suggestions.
