Transcoding for Shield Pro but not for tablets

I’ve recently picked up a hdhomerun quatro and installed within plex.

plex is running on ubuntu with an amd a8-5600k apu and 16gb ram, video playback from h264 and h265 media plays fine, but have noticed it randomly wants to transcode live video when playing on my Shield Pro’s which are both hardwired, yet on my samsung tab s6 or s20fe I have no problems with live tv through plex.

So why is this trying to transcode when not actually needed as all devices can do direct-play and i have turned off transcoding.

I know the spec of server is old, but it should be fine with direct play, but i will be switching it for an intel i5-4460 with 16gb ram and gtx 750 sc/ti until i can afford a newer setup.

Hi @mirdragon , try changing remote stream to original and make sure automatic quality or something to that terminology is turned off under settings in the Plex client on the shield. That should hopefully fix it. Generally has to do with the remote stream quality setting even if you’re local.
