Trouble setting up Plex on Synology after crash

I had an issue where my Plex server stopped working after a power failure, so I’ve tried to uninstall it all and reinstall. I’m getting an error of “Server settings are unavailable.”

I’m using a Synology DS412+. Intel, 64bit. Let me know what other info I can provide… please help!

First and foremost; Did DSM volume checking recover everything OK?
Linux RAID volumes do no like being powered off abruptly.

The rest of my files seem to be just fine. I can access everything, I just can’t get Plex set up.

Can you go grab the logs and see what’s there please?

Is there anything identifying in the logs that posting them publicly will expose information I should not be?

No.

I will grab them right away. If there is, I’ll remove the ZIP file

Thx, here you go

MODERATOR EDIT Logs received. Link removed.

Thanks for the logs.

There are two possible reasons for what I’m seeing. One is easy to correct and the other will need Synology Tech Support to access it remotely.

  1. “Server Settings not available” is expected given what your logs show me. PMS itself can’t write to the “Plex” share.

  2. This is either easy to fix or will need Synology.

  3. Let’s try the easiest one.

  4. Control Panel - Shared Folders - Edit the Plex share - Permissions tab

  5. Make certain user plex has R/W permissions for the Plex share. If it doesn’t then grant the permissions, OK the change and restart PMS (Package Center)

  6. If it does have permission, then
    a. Package Center
    b. Uninstall Plex (your data is safe. only the software is removed - not your data)
    c. Install the package again.

As the installer runs, it will make permission changes to the Plex share for user Plex.
After installation is complete, let it along for a couple minutes. If you see the drives are busy then wait until they quiet down otherwise try to open Plex again as you would normally.

Plex does have the R/W permissions to the shared folders already. I did do the uninstall, delete the Plex user, restart, reinstall a few times, and I still get the same error (I was following one of your other threads as a guide). I’ll do it again if theres a need, but I’m pretty sure I did the steps per your instructions.

What is the more difficult solution?

I didn’t need you to delete the plex user yet. I wanted to see if we can do this with minimal disruption.

Grab the logs again. Let’s make certain it’s DSM or Plex.

For some reason when I uninstalled and reinstalled, it wouldn’t allow the package to run. It’s saying “Failed to run the package service”. I tried to uninstall and restart and reinstall, but now I’m getting the same error.

I’m trying to attach the new log zip but now I’m having trouble connecting to the NAS (the file size is a little smaller though). I can check in again in the morning to see if it will let me log in from a Finder window (macbook).

I’m heading in for the night. Thank you for your help so far. I’ll check this thread in the morning.

The problems you’re describing are what I thought might be the case.

Your logs showed the RAID share “Plex” was marked as Read-Only.
That implies the entire RAID volume (volume1) didn’t recover cleanly.

Storage Manager -> Scrub should clear it but that takes time.

Next step is another restart of DSM (unless you have restarted it multiple times).

The only next step is to file a Help Desk ticket with Synology to help you repair the volume. They can do that remotely and advise.
