Trouble with movies in subfolders

Server Version#: 4.12.3
Player Version#:
For some reason plex has trouble seeing movies that are in a sub folder.
example:
Volumes/Movies14d/Galdiator (2000).mp4 (No problem)

Volumes.Movies14d/Gladiator (2000)/Gladiator (2000).mp4 (server does not see it.)

The thing is why I am encountering this problem nog is that I switched from manual downloading movies to Radarr. Radarr for some reason demands that movies are placed in a folder by the same name. No clue why this is mandatory. I know this is not the radarr forum, an being able to add movies directly into the root movie folder is a feature request.
Never the less I do not understand why plex can’t see the movies If they are in a subfolder.

The second option is the preferred way by most media management software.

Reason being that then you can put all the extra files along with the movie in its own folder. It also helps to add the year to the folder as you have because of all the remakes.
Plex library folder should be pointing at Movies14d/ if its pointing at Volumes then that’s the problem. Plex is looking for movie folders in the top level folder.

Plex isn’t looking there…
Check out the Plex Support Articles, lots of good information.

That answers is a bit mixed.
1 preferred to use sub folders. (this is de file structure that does not work, so how can it be preferred?
2 why if its not looking in subfolders, if its the preferred option???

Plex looks at the folder you supply to library for the folders containing the movies…

example…

N:\movies\ <— added to the library
N:\movies\Gladiator (2000) <---- movie folder it finds
N:\movies\Gladiator (2000)\Gladiator (2000).mkv <---- the movie
N:\movies\Gladiator (2000)\Gladiator (2000).eng.srt <---- English sub title file
N:\movies\Gladiator (2000)\Gladiator (2000)-poster.jpg <— Movie poster

there are sub-folders that can be here but they are very specific and relate directly to this move…

check the naming conventions for Plex, has more detailed information.

Naming convention is perfect. Only normal all my movie files are in the library folder directly. If I place a new movie (actually radarr places it) in a subfolder however, plex does not look in it.

So my problem is that your example structure does not work on my end even-though it should.

Does your movie library show folder like this?

yup (I run on mac)
The movie folders you see are the names of the mounted network mounts

Hopefully one of the Plex Moderators can look into it…
At the moment I can’t think of anything else if you file structure is correct.

other then what scanner and agent are you using for that library?

Best to call elevated support - I suppose:
@OttoKerner can probably get to the bottom of it - or definitely aim it in the right direction.

What server are you actually on? This version number doesn’t make sense.

Makes sense if you know that’s the Plexweb Version…lol

Regular Joe User doesn’t look farther down the page than that - but the server version is under ā€œGeneralā€.

I only have this to add on the folder problem. IF those MP4 files have embedded metadata - that could cause all sorts of pain and suffering.

Move Local Media Assets to the bottom of the stack of active agents under ALL tabs in Shows and Movies thusly:

Red: where it was
Green: where it goes

then ā€˜Refresh Metadata’ or ā€˜Plex Dance’:

That’s all I can think of.

oeps posted the web server version
this is the server Version 1.18.4.2171

no need to call me a Regular Joe just for getting them mixed up. Ive been running plex for a long time. (11 Years)

Oh I see @JuiceWSA made his 2 cents… raise you one…

We’re ALL regular Joes, Pal and this Regular Joe is trying to help another one - you.

Did you move LMA?
Did you Refresh Metadata or Plex Dance?

Answer those two questions and we can scratch 'em off the list, at least.

I am no Mac user, so I can’t help with any specifics.

The naming convention cited above by @nydave69 is exactly right.
If Plex doesn’t see them, I have only one idea: access permissions.

Aha! If you just started using radarr maybe it’s not setting that folder permission correctly.

… and could be here (wild google guess):

Google wanted to take me many places I could not go - without a Radar Username and Password.

think its spelled RADARR…

In that case:

The ā€˜Googler’ in search of info often knows how to spell whatever is being searched for, making the search much more productive…lol
