Server Version#: 1.19.5.3112 (Ubuntu Server 20.04)
Player Version#: 7.3.1
Hello guys, today I made my Plex Server for my family and I. I configurated everything properly (Port forwarding, UFW configs, added the repos, etc). I tried to use the Plex Player in my Android phone and almost everything looked kind of alright? I coppied a mp4 of Batman The Dark Knight into /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Movies (folder that I chown’d to plex:plex) and everything looked fine, but when I tried to watch at least 5 minutes of the movie, the Plex Player just popped me out of the player, making me have to restart the movie.
That’s just for Android. When I was installing the Plex Player in my mom’s phone (an iPhone, don’t know what version) the Plex Player app recognized the server I made, but when I get to choose a movie, it shows nothing. I thought that I may not have picked the server, but I did. In fact, to the phone, it was “Disconnected”, although in my Android phone I can watch at least 3 minutes of Batman.
Any solutions?
Also: I’m running Ubuntu Server 20.04 in a VirtualBox with 100GB, 1.5GB RAM, 2GB SWAP, 2 cores. Anfitrion OS Arch Linux.
Now increase the memory allocation keeping the swap as is.
Ubuntu 20.04 needs 1 GB to to load itself and get running. 2GB is much better. No avoiding that.
PMS should have, based on what we define for NAS boxes, 4 GB of total system memory with 8GB considered optimal for HW transcoding (but you won’t get that in a VBox VM)
ALSO: I don’t actually said this before because I didn’t thought it may be a issue, but the VDI (virtual disk from the vbox) is stored in a 1TB Toshiba HDD. I don’t actually think this can be the cause of all this, because when I try to watch the movie from a Windows PC that I have lying around it works perfectly via LAN. No cuts, no nothing. But from phones… that’s why I’m here
If the problem is a server, I can help.
I am not much help at all with some apps and I unfortunately don’t have any Android devices to help with other than an Nvidia Shield (which isn’t a phone). Sorry
Whenever I have had difficulty with Servers in VMs (I run several),
I make absolutely certain it is in PEER networking mode.
The VM has its own IP on my LAN and appears as if a separate host.
Then, and only then, will everything work ok.
I have no Windows systems here at all. 100% Linux.
Gotcha. I have all of my configurations like you say, but it stills pops me out of the movie when I try to watch it on my phone.
Then I got a locale error because I wanted to have two locales (yeah, dumb af) in the server. I deleted the VDI, made it bigger, no LVM, 200GB, same RAM and everything.
When I first installed PMS, I made this UFW config:
[Plexmediaserver]
title=Plex Media Server (Standard)
description = Plex Media Server
ports=32400/tcp|3005/tcp|5353/udp|8324/tcp|32410:32414/udp
[plexmediaserver-dlna]
title=Plex Media Server (DLNA)
description=Plex Media Server DLNA
ports=1900/udp|32469/tcp
[plexmediaserver-all]
title=Plex Media Server Standard and DLNA
description=Plex Media Server with Standard and DLNA
ports=32400/tcp|3005/tcp|5353/udp|8324/tcp|32410:32414/udp|1900/udp|32469/tcp
I watched a guy making this port config in a YouTube video, so I thought it may be the problem? I don’t know, I’ll try disabling the UFW and tell you if it was the problem.
Nope, no luck.
Edit: Deleted a few spaces in the UFW config.
