Trying to get a TV show to appear as one in Plex

I have HighSchool of the Dead on my pc and I can’t get Plex to put it in as a TV show. I can get it to show it as a home video or movie but not what it really is. What am I doing wrong. This seems to be a issue I have with multiple tv shows.

Hi there,

Do you have a specific ‘TV-show’ folder on your setup? My folders are arranged as follows;

Then on my Plex server I added the TV show library as follows;

(after that, select the TV show folder from the previous image.

And as last take a look at this link.
You should name your series correctly, they explain it very well in that webpage.
In short, you need something like this:

Hope this helped! Also, let me know if you make any progress :D.

Newbie question. I have a set up similar to this. Under Movies, are various recorded programs (should be under TV, really)

But I don’t see folders (from Plex, I see them on the computer), as you have here. All programs appear in one folder (within Plex). I assume that there is a setting for this somewhere, but I can’t find it.

The link you provided was a little to complex for me. The video’s are in my Video section of my computer you know the libraries. From there its in the seperate folder labeled Highschool of the Dead. Should it be elsewhere??

BTW should I label them as s01e01 cus I have them labeled like Highschool of the Dead Episode 01 and so on and so on?

You need to separate movies from series from music.
Then connect your movie library with the movies folder and not with your general ‘media’ folder.
Same applies to the other media types.
TV Shows (series) require a separate library type.

We download TV programmes from filmon. They are downloaded as 3456789.mp4

From what I am reading, I think that I have to rename them, and should look them up in an online database before saving them. That sounds like a pain to do…

You can leave them as 938469387.mp4 and dump them into a Home Video library.
Though you will miss out on the cooler features of Plex, like automatic download of all the necessary metadata and knowing which episode comes after which and tracking which episodes you’ve already seen. (and that for every of your users independently).

Appreciate your response…

Tried it, and it (sort of) works - but I don’t think that Home Video Library recognises the folders within it. All programs appear in one folder.

I need the folders, so that we can see what programs we have…

OR is there some other place (rather than FilmOn) to get downloads in the required format?

I should have said, we live in Spain, and like UK TV programs

Many plex clients support a ‘folder view’.
But I encourage you to try and rename it.
It is not that difficult, once you get the hang of it.

Okay Otto I will try what you suggested. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

I must be doing something wrong. Cus I created a seperate library folder named TV Shows and then included the HighSchool of the Dead folder from the movies file into this folder. It however isn’t even showing the TV Shows folder in Plex when I go to add folder.

The media folders of different libraries must not ‘overlap’.
You have tv shows among your movies. But the folder with the movies is already covered by the ‘movie library’.
You must separate them completely.

Media /
Movies / <-- 'Movies' library points here
      Akira (1988).mp4
      ...
TV Shows / <-- 'TV Shows' library points here
      HighSchool of the Dead /
         Season 01 /
HighSchool of the Dead - s01e01.mp4
            ...

As you can see, Movies and TV Show folders are side by side.

Mine goes

Libraries/
Documents/
Music/
Pictures/
Tv Shows/ (just added this)
Videos/

Its in the videos section that normally I put well all the videos I ever have. Theres no such thing as a Media folder as these are libraries nothing more. The document section is essentially My Documents. Same goes for all the others.

Okay it didn’t do that right. Its Libraries/ then everything else is a subfolder under the Libraries heading >.>

And now edit your tv show library and make sure it only looks at the folder Libraries/Tv Shows and not plain Libraries

I don’t know how to get Plex to do that. When I try to get it to see in the folders its not seeing the TV Shows folder. Its only seeing Documents, Music, Video, Pictures. I don’t know why it won’t see TV Shows.

What do you mean with ‘see’?
Where are you exactly? maybe take a screenshot.

There you go. Also thats not suppose to be Sherlock. THATS what it turned High School of the Dead into.
