Turning home-made SRT subtitles on for a home-made mp4 video crashes plex and won't play

I see a bunch of posts with the same problem -
I tried turning on Windows 8 compatibility on the transcoder. Didn’t work.
I tried deleting the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Cache\Transcode\Sync folder. Didn’t work.
I restarted the server. Didn’t work.

Was this ever fixed? How do I get it to work for me.

Running Version 1.12.2.4929

Please help. The video is hard to hear and the subtitles are somewhat necessary…

let’s detail your actual prob or at least share a link on one of the bunch of posts with the same prob.

  • can you share an example of your home-made SRT?
  • do you use them as external subtitles or do you have them embedded in the container?
  • what exactly do you do to that crashes Plex?
  • logs?
