TV, other computers say my server "isn't available"

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252
Player Version#:

I just built a new rig with Windows 10 Pro, same OS as my last computer. I moved my files over and tried to set up my plex server on my new computer. The settings in Plex are exactly the same as my old computer, but I cannot figure out why I can’t connect to this thing from my tv, or other computers. Right now, from other computers, on the app.plex.tv app, it says “you are not directly connected so it might be slow” or something like that.

My router has had no changes, so it can’t be that because it was working with my other computer. This computer is plugged into the router via ethernet cable, but the old one was too. I checked firewalls and network settings, and Plex is allowed through all of those and all my network settings are set to be as open as possible from what I can see. Every version of the client app can see this server, they just can’t connect to it.

I’ve tried some of the support ideas that it gives me (Happens whether my network is private or public). I am at a loss. I can’t tell what’s different! Is there some hidden Plex setting that thinks I should still only use my old server? Please help! I’ve attached my logs from today (I tried connecting once on my samsung tv). Thanks for any help!

Are you sure you moved your files over correctly? Your logs indicate that there was no database at startup so it created a brand new one.

Edit - Also, did you copy and apply the registry from the old setup?

I literally just copied movie files over and installed a new plex server on my brand new system. Do I have to copy my registry too? Why? I made a new server and I guess a new database too. I figured my account could just be used again on a different computer.

I tried this with a brand new plex account as well. Same issue. Maybe something was left over from my other account that was screwing with it. This is so weird. It worked just fine on my last computer with no extra setup.

Do my logs show anything about an attempt to connect to my server and a failure there?

Is there anything else I can give you to help you understand the issue? What can I do to help you help me? lol Thank you so much for the reply!

Oh sorry. From your initial post it sounded like you were trying to transfer your setup to a new computer. If you started from scratch than nevermind.

If you tried setting up the server before under another account, it may still be linked to that so you can’t gain access with the new account. Look at Why am I locked out of Server Settings and how do I get in? | Plex Support to remove any account information from your server. Then stick to 1 account and see if you can access and claim your server.

It appears my registry is cleaned from the other account. I tried logging in on app.plex.tv on my phone to my server on my account and on my phone it says I don’t have a direct connection, and it asked if I wanted to connect on an insecure connection because the server allows that.

I did try connecting to the server (Storm Mammoth) and retrying to connection at 17:51 and 17:55 in this newly connected log. does it show anything you can see that would cause me to not be able to connect?

When setting up your server you need to access the local web client using the computer’s IP, or if you are on the computer 127.0.0.1 or locahost.

Okay. Cool.

So here’s the interesting thing.

I can watch videos from this server on app.plex.tv on this server’s computer and other computers and iphones.

I can also watch it when I log into the app on an ipad.

The devices that can’t reach my server and show it as currently unavailable when I try to connect, are on a firestick and a samsung tv. Those two devices I have to use plex.tv/link to log in with, but the others that work, I logged in with my email and password. Do you think that might be where the problem is? What do you make of that?

Thanks again for taking time to listen and help!

Do you have more than 1 Plex account? Maybe you linked them to the other account instead. If so, try relinking and making sure you are using the same Plex account.

I made a second account just to test if it was my current account having issues. I haven’t logged into that account since on my server PC. It also looks like the apps are using the correct plex account. I’m going to check the insecure connection settings next to see if they are matching. Maybe the settings there aren’t matching up.
