So, I’m currently adding all Supernatural seasons to my library. Each Blu-ray disk has some specials that I want to include as well.
So, my folder hierarchy is:
Supernatural
— Season 1
------- Ep 1
------- Ep 2
— Deleted Scenes
------- Faith.mkv
------- Scarecrow.mkv
------- Hook Man.mkv
However, the Deleted Scenes doesn’t show up. I tried to move it in Season 1, at the same level than the episodes but Plex promptly ignores it. I made sure that “Local Media Assets (TV)” was the first in the list and turned on, as is recommended but my deleted scenes are now showing up.
Thanks. It was not obvious where to find the new agent settings but I did manage:
Server → Manage → Libraries → TV Shows → Edit Library
In the window that appeared, under “Advanced”, I see the Scanner being “Plex TV Series” and the same for Agent. “Use local assets” and “Prefer local metadata” are both checked. I forced scanning the libraries. No dice. I took the “Deleted Scenes” folder out of the “Supernatural” folder, then put it back there at the top level, no effect. The “Deleted Scenes” will not appear. I’m starting to think it’s a bug…
I forgot that wasn’t mentioned in the Advanced Settings documents. You can also use the three dots to the right of the library name. See Editing Libraries.
Try the Plex Dance with the Deleted Scenes folder.
I have it working on my server. See file structure below.
In Plex Web, Plex Desktop, and Plex Android Mobile, the extras appear on the main show page below the cast pictures. See the Plex Web screenshot below (I’m using some test files, not the actual episodes & deleted scenes, so the thumbnails are not correct).
File structure:
TV Shows <-- folder added to TV show library
...Supernatural (2005)
......Deleted Scenes
.........Deleted One.mkv
.........Deleted Two.mkv
.........Deleted Three.mkv
......Season 01
.........Supernatural s01e01.mkv
.........Supernatural s01e02.mkv
.........Supernatural s01e03.mkv
Great! Except that I think I did a mistake. In the advanced section of the TV Shows library, I changed the “Scanner” from “Plex TV Series” to “Plex Series Scanner”. I then lost all the preview and pictures for Supernatural and a couple of other TV series. The problem is that when I try to set the Scanner back to “Plex TV Series” and I click “Save”, I get a message that “Your changes could not be saved.”
I searched the forum for similar problems. Let’s see if this will work. Basically, change the library to use a legacy agent/scanner, then have Plex change it back.
Edit the library.
Set Scanner = Plex Series Scanner
Set Agent = either TheTVDB or The Movie Database
Save Changes.
If so, go to Settings → Libraries.
You should see an up arrow in an orange circle next to the TV show library.
Mouse over it. You should see an option to Upgrade Library.
I followed all the steps you described. After I saved changes, I could see the activity cursor spinning next to the TV Shows. But when I clicked to Update Library, it just stopped. My entire TV Shows are still missing everything, no thumbnails, no description, no rating, nothing. It’s like they’re something I made myself and Plex has no idea what they are.
Not sure what next step to take. Of course, the Deleted Scenes is still missing…
Note: I just re-edit the TV Shows library. Now, the scanner is back to Plex TV Series? I had set it like you suggested to “Plex Series Scanner”. I’m not sure how it reverted. All the other settings under the Advanced tab seem to be back to default. I’m going to stop the server and restart it to see if it makes any change.
Another note: after restarting the server and seeing nothing would work, I took the entire Supernatural folder out of the TV Shows folder. I waited for it to disappear from the player. I then put it back and now all thumbnails are back and… The Deleted Scenes is also finally there!
