I just want to post my solution here:
In the end, what worked for me was to manually update my TerraMaster NAS and then update PLEX.
I was not aware that TerraMaster discontinued their Online Update function, so I had a very old version of TOS.

That solved my problem

When did TerraMaster discontinue their online update function?? Does this only effect the version of TOS that is on the NAS or all applications?

I am not sure when, or why.
