TV Shows naming odd

I have some TV Shows that are named appropriately but PLEX looks like it’s interpreting it different or I need to set something on it.

So example is The Voice UK, ,it obviously knows the show, but the name is probably based on the source file and not the internet source.

I also see this with shows like The Morning Show where some show the real name and some show some odd name. I didn’t see any option with TV Shows to make it only name based on internet sources. Thoughts?

EDIT: Should note that the descriptions are right in the details so that’s odd the name is what it is.

Also here is how my Voice files are in their own season folder:

Thanks.

Your files are NOT named correctly for Plex.

Isn’t this correct? I’ll provide snippets and just stick with The Voice UK

Then in that folder:

And then in that you saw the above post.

And should be noticed that Episode 1 doesn’t show it was indexed but I can play it fine. S4E1 - Episode 1

Also, once you’ve corrected your naming, you’ll likely need to move “Local Media Assets” down in priority in your agent configuration. By default, TV show libraries use TheTVDB. So, in Settings -> Agents -> Shows -> TheTVDB, move Local Media Assets down so that it is the last enabled source in the list:

If you’re using The Movie Database instead, make the change there.

Finally, you may need to perform the Plex Dance to get it to reorganize things.

So the recommendation is to rename all my shows with the showname - S##E##.ext? Rather than S##E## - Episode ##.ext? Hope not as that’s not going to happen. I have way to many shows to manually do that without… Oh nevermind sitting at home with nothing to do. Let me know.

Also what I don’t get is from the below it seems to know what the file is but still names it odd:

I can see it’s getting it from the internal name of the file but why. So curious if renaming the files would even help if it’s going to grab naming from file metadata.

Ahh, just noticed philipsw comment about local media assets.

Try moving Local Media Assets as described above. Since these are MP4 files any embedded metadata will take precedence over the online sources, if LMA is at the top of the list.

OK I moved it to the bottom than said why would I ever want to use that and unchecked it across the board. Now what should I do? Refreshing metadata or syncing again doesn’t work. Do I need to use Plex Dance or is there another way to do a full refresh?

Manage Library > Analyze seemed to take care of it. Does that make sense?

Except for one thing, When I click edit on a top level poster it still renames the show. Almost like it’s using the first show metadata still to name it.

Maybe it’s time to invest in a solution.

It concerning when a OP asks for a solution, then dis guards it as nonsense. We are volunteers helping people with there Plex. I hope you resolve your issue going forward, naming correctly will eliminate any further oddities.

Given the odd behavior, yes, the Plex Dance is likely needed. And there’s no need to disable Local Media Assets entirely, as long as the other sources have priority. LMAs are needed for certain things, like external subtitles.

Trust me I appreciate your input but I’m not a drone. I listen to input and made decisions as I feel make sense. So like if I renamed all the files, and don’t get rid of the issues with the metadata, I’ll still be where I started from. So I took the suggestion to move the Agents around as that made sense. And look, it cleared it up except for a couple oddities.

So do I understand the steps in the plex dance right? You need to move the TV Shows to a different location so it can’t find them? Also as a side question I did an Analyze I did it on all my assets. Some show this after a while:

And of course it’s spinning.

Yes, that’s the first step. Then, once you scan it will see that the shows are missing and mark them as such. Emptying the trash removes the reference(s) to them in the library. Cleaning bundles removes all the associated metadata associated with them. After performing these steps you move the items back and re-scan.

Thanks I’ll give it a try. Do I need to stop Plex for this to work? I know Windows can be tough trying to move 1000 movies to another place and none of them being in use. As a side question, wouldn’t it be the same to remove the associated library and recreate it? Or is that different?

Thanks.

JR

No. In fact, Plex must be running for the process to work. You cannot empty trash or clean bundles with Plex stopped.
