I’ve been having a lot of weird and random things happen with the plex server and the QNAP lately. The latest is that TV shows has become completely inaccessible overnight. Weird thing is any shows on deck still play fine. I’ve restarted the QNAP and server numerous times with no change. Also checked the file permissions. There was a QNAP update over the weekend and I figured that might fix the problem but no luck. Server and QNAP are running the latest updates. My question is anyone else having issues? I talked to a friend of mine and he’s also having strange things happen. He thought a drive was going bad but after hearing what I had going on he’s thinking its the QNAP or Plex causing a problem. QNAP has been a bit of a nightmare lately due to the fact that it would disconnect from the network overnight and the only way to get it back up was a hard reset which would trigger a resync. I scheduled a nightly restart which seemed to fix the problem until a couple mornings ago. The only way to get the network back up was to disconnect the Qnap and reboot the internet. Even then I had to wait for quite a while to plug it back in or the network and internet would shut down. I know this isn’t the first time I’ve had the QNAP become an absolute headache. The last time I had trouble an update was released and all the problems went away. But this problem started before the QNAP update of this past weekend and persisted. Hopefully the next update will fix this but that could be weeks or months. Hopefully a Plex Media Server update will resolve it. It seems like PMS releases more updates than Qnap lately.
Well, you do mention a lot of different things here, so let’s take it one step at a time
And do note, that saying you run the latest is not enough ![]()
I run a QNAP TS-253B with QTS 5.0.0.1986, and it’s steady as a rock!
But your most important issue:
- So you are saying, that you can’t access the internet, nor the QNAP QTS?
- So is your QNAP running on a dedicated IP, or using DHCP?
- Did you connect more than one network interface on your QNAP to your router/switch?
It’s a TS-653D version 5.0.0.1986. Plex server is running version 1.25.8.5663. It’s running on a static IP and connected directly into a router via 1 Ethernet cable. A while back I started to think I was having trouble because I had it running through 2 switches to get to the main router. I replaced that with a mesh system so it could be directly connected to a router via Ethernet. And the router it’s connected to connects to the main router via Ethernet as well. It’s only shutdown the internet and network to my knowledge a couple times. Still doesn’t explain why tv shows are unavailable except for the ones on deck. Anytime I try to access it says something went wrong an unexpected error occurred. Hope this helps.
And the answer to above?
Correct. Its obviously back up but with the QNAP plugged in via ethernet there wasn’t any access to the internet even after rebooting the main router and internet several times. The only way to bring it back was to unplug the QNAP from the router. Internet came back up. I waited for 20 min or so then plugged the QNAP back in.
I would then guess, that you have a problem with your router, that needs to be fixed first
Maybe something in the router logs?
