or ya know, everyone could just have some patience and wait it out while tvdb gets sorted out.
@TeknoJunky I think what this thread was trying to figure out was to confirm for sure whether the issue was on how Plex was consuming the new API needing an update (which I believe has been confirmed by @ChuckPa should not be the issue) vs waiting for TVDB to finish migration. Patience is a great virtue and all, but the idea is to understand the root cause of an issue so that all parties involved (the reporters, the helpful Plex staff and future readers of forum threads) can understand exactly WHY something is not working so that we can all learn a little better how the Plex solution works that ultimately helps us as users.
I just created another clone of my Television library section.
There were no errors. 146 series accounted for.
There are other series I have (20 more) which TVDB does not have data for. I would love to get them to show up but they wont.
Wew I thought I am the only one facing the problem where I dont see any posters show up on certain shows, the only thing I got is the metadata, summary and episode name, but no posters and background. Guess have to wait.
Just chiming in, I am not getting posters, backgrounds, banners or years/dates. It is matching the shows though. TVDB only.
Go in and clear the caches + plug-in & agent caches (stopped of course)
then Refresh all metadata.
Keep clearing you cache isnt going to fix the problems TVDB are experience with a roll back, are you all that stupid not to have check the TVDB website. They are in a process of rolling back changes made earlier this week.
Why didnt plex provide notification when they received a partner email from TVDB, is the real question you need to answer, but we know the answer, plex developers have their head up their own butts
Since you seem to enjoy being uninformed and obtuse, having joined only 30 minutes prior to posting,
- The changes at TheTVDB were to be transparent. Coordination had already taken place and preparations were made long ago.
- In the middle of their rollout, it apparently went sideways resulting in bad matches and partial downloads.
- This resulted in them taking the actions they take now.
The only way to keep PMS in a state where it is ready to ingest the data from TheTVDB as it is restored is to clear the caches, retry, and wait.
Chuck,
Been walking thru this same issue for a few days in an iocage jail on FreeNAS. Looked thru several posts about clearing plugin/metadata caches and found how to do it on Windows/MacOS/Linux but not FreeBSD and the locations donāt seem to match. Any help for us FreeNAS folks?
Thanks in advance,
FreeNAS 11.2-U5
PMS 1.16.3.1433
I believe freenas uses docker so the location would be (fingers crossed) under the /config directory ?
Is this still an issue? I have cleared caches (Windows 10 Plex server) and still canāt get posters for some shows
On thetvdb side, they rolled back the update to the v2 system to iron out all the bugs that came up the last days. Dunno how this affects Plex though.
I had to manually clean the cache of the tvdb agent in order for this to work again. I had a couple of shows that were populated during the v2-v3 transition and I couldnāt retrieve the images for these (posters, etc), even after performing the āPlex Danceā.
So I renamed (first, and later deleted) the directory com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb in the Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Caches directory on my Qnap and the full functionality has been restored.
You may check for the location of the directory from this help page: https://support.plex.tv/articles/202915258-where-is-the-plex-media-server-data-directory-located/
Kind regards
Raf
I can confirm that on the FreeNAS Plex Plug-in deleting ācom.plexapp.agents.thetvdbā works on the handful of shows that refused to download artwork.
Jail Root >Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Caches/com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb
Delete folder with ārm -r com.plexapp.agents.thetvdbā then restart the plugin > unmatch affected media item then re-match.
Edit: I found more was broken then I thought. Media had covers but they were low quality and Plex provided no alternatives. Selecting everything and refreshing metadata fixed it all. You probably donāt need to do this unless you installed Plex fresh while this all went down like I did.
I noticed that Looney Tunes still isnāt picking up posters. Everything else seems to be fixed. Tried deleting the cache again but still nothing. It will pick up the main poster for the show then it will duplicate it to the background and all seasons.
I still have it. Might your naming for Looney Toons need some adjusting?

Iāve had this same issue. Iām also running in a docker container, and have cleared out the caches a few times now. I thought this was due to migrating this library from a previous setup, but Iāve gone so far as to create a new server with new libraries and had the same issue.
Hereās the logs:
Plex Media Server Logs_2019-08-12_08-49-21.zip (4.3 MB)
I should also note that I canāt even manually link to or upload poster art.
For docker, youāre going to have to go in and clear out all the caches, just as others have done here (or start over). This seems to be the best option at resolving the flip-flop from what occurred at TheTVDB.
I have already cleared out all the caches AND tested this with an entirely new server and have the same issue.
Ok, next question. How well curated is your naming.
One thing which did come out of this is the naming is a little stricter.
Part of this is TVDB and part is Plex.
If you can show me how a few which donāt match / download are named, I can try.
