Two Al Pacinos

I recently noticed this problem. I have many “two of everything” in my Movie library. For example

And I can not fix it. No matter what I try. No matter my agents. No matter trying to manually edit.

I recently added the movie “Benedetta.” I have about 10 Paul Verhoeven movies. I can’t make the Paul Verhoeven of RoboCop be the same Paul Verhoeven of Benedetta.

? How can I fix this ?

I am occasionally successful by refreshing metadata in some of the titles to get Al PAcino #2 to become Al PAcino #1 but this is not 100% successful. Changing agents is not 100% successful either.

I have one example of two Tom Hanks.

There is one title, America a Tribute to Fallen Heroes.

If I delete this title from the library I am back to 20 movies with one Tome Hanks

If I add this movie back, I have two Tom HAnks
One movie of this, and 20 movies of the other Tom Hanks

Hellllp

I really wish there were a way to manually edit directors and actors

The situation as is, is untenable

I have about 6000 movies

Umm, I heard this may be caused by a corrupt database. If refreshing metadata fixes it, it sounds more and more like the database wasn’t fully converted on n agent update. From what I hear, a database repair can fix it.

EDIT: Ok, maybe not “corrupt” database, but a need for optimization. I feel a database optimization may help, and won’t hurt.

Yeah, it began happening to me too recently. The only solution I found that seem to work when it happens after adding a movie is to completely quit and restart the Plex server, and then refresh the metadata of the whole library. It’s a pain, but so far it works in regrouping the duplicated actor entries that are created.

It keeps happening once in a while, always after adding a new movie. I don’t know exactly when it began doing this, but that’s a fairly new behavior.

  1. don’t change agents willy-nilly, particularly when you already converted to the new “Plex Movie” agent. Otherwise you might have to Plex dance at least the affected items.
Don’t switch back to the old “legacy” agents.
  2. two instances of the same actor are a side effect of a recent bug fix. To solve it, do nothing than refresh metadata of the whole library
  3. make sure that “Prefer local meta data” is NOT ticked in the properties of your library
  4. checking your database for damage can’t hurt
