Two Episodes Keep Overlapping and Can't split (Lost S01E24 + 25)

I have the typical naming scheme followed. But with Lost S01E25 this is a DVD episode, it’s just E24 cut in 2 parts. I tried swapping the show over to DVD order, but it refuses to split the episode. I currently have them named “Exodus (2)” and “Exodus (3)”, but it still groups them together. If I try to add Part 1 and Part 2 to the text it still groups them. I have never seen this issue before and am unsure why it is grouping files with different episode numbers and names. But the split apart option is not in the menu.

What the heck is going on here?

Would you mind sharing the exact file names / structure?
If Plex is merging the files as 1 episode, you have a more fundamental issue than applying the DVD order.
If your files are properly named and recognized the 25th episode should show as “Episode 25” while you’re in airing order.

The below structure should work:

TV Shows <- the folder linked to your tv-show library
  Lost
    Season 01
      Lost - s01e01 - Pilot (1).ext
      Lost - s01e02.ext
      ...
      Lost - s01e24 - Exodus (2).ext
      Lost - s01e25 - Exodus (3).ext

Where .ext is your file extension. Plex is not using episode titles in file names… so it’s safe to drop them.
After properly scanning/matching the show (w/ s01e25 being labelled as “Episode 25”), go to the advanced settings of that show. There change the order to “DVD order” and refresh the show’s metadata. Job done.

Splitting is only available on a show level if 2 shows get mixed up.

This is the information pulled right from my Plex “Get Info” on the episodes.

TV Shows/Lost/Season 01/Lost - S01E01 - Pilot (1).mkv
TV Shows/Lost/Season 01/Lost - S01E02 - Pilot (2).mkv

TV Shows/Lost/Season 01/Lost - S01E24 - Exodus (3).mkv
TV Shows/Lost/Season 01/Lost - S01E23 - Exodus (1).mkv
TV Shows/Lost/Season 01/Lost - S01E24 - Exodus (2).mkv
TV Shows/Lost/Season 01/Lost - S01E24 - Exodus (3).mkv

I’ve already changed the show to DVD order and refreshing the metadata, but it just keeps them combined. Any episodes I’ve ever had that showed up with a 2 or 3 on them before I’ve been able to split. The Aired Order doesn’t have an episode 25, so it shouldn’t be bundled either way.

Well… here you go.
The last two episodes are both labelled as episode 24

TV Shows/Lost/Season 01/Lost - S01E24 - Exodus (2).mkv
TV Shows/Lost/Season 01/Lost - S01E24 - Exodus (3).mkv
                                  ^^^

Change the Exodus (3) file to go as E25 instead.
Afterwards you probably need to perform a Plex Dance to make Plex forget it had that file already catalogued as s01e24.

Yep, that’s all on me. I name Filebot to rename, but it didn’t have information for that one. So I manually named it. Despite the different naming conventions I tried on the file I of course never looked at the episode number, lol.

Thanks for being the eyes I apparently don’t have.

Also as soon as I changed it to 25 it worked. It didn’t populate any information for the episode, but since it’s a 2 parter I just copied it from 24.

I have the DVDs and there are only 24 episodes. I think it was the Blu-rays where they split it and did 25 episodes. You’ll have to add in your own metadata as TVDB does not have episode 25 even under DVD order.

EDIT: I guess I should have finished reading your post as I see that’s exactly what you did.

:astonished:

Well, I’ll be… They’re so hard-headed over at TVDB sometimes, I never thought they would allow this!

Yeah, I seen that they had episode 25 on their DVD ordering and that it had information. But for some reason it didn’t pull. Not the end of the world though since it’s just a two part episode.

Did you “Refresh Metadata” for the whole show, after switching to “DVD order”?
