My wife has started using Plex on her iPhone 10 and frequently experiences 2 songs playing at the same time (for at least the past month). When she advances from one song to the next, the original songs keeps playing at a lower volume and the new song starts. This has happened on my iPhone 8 as well. Closing the app and reopening it fixes the issue but is, of course, an annoying fix.
My Plex server is running in a Docker on a Synology NAS (running latest server version). Our iPhones are both updated to the latest version and our Plex apps are updated.
I think what you’re describing is actually considered a feature. You should be able to disable Sweet Fades / Fading from the playback options on the now-playing screen.
Thanks Tom! I can see how that setting could contribute to this. It’s odd - when this happens, the song that is playing at 50% volume will continue until we manually close and restart the app. I’ll give this a shot and see if the issue continues.
Actually, nevermind. I have a lifetime Plex pass and have ‘sweet fades’ enabled; but my wife does not. It’s currently turned off. Is there another feature which could be causing this?
Now the issue just happened on my phone while I was walking outside listening to one song. In the middle of the song, without touching anything, a new song started playing on top of the original song that I was playing at full volume. Now I have 2 songs playing at full volume at the same time. Closing and restarting the app resolves this. I’m attaching my log from my phone. This WAS at one time a regular occurrence even on PlexAmp however I will say that I’ve yet had it happen again for more than 5 months. The double layering of tracks was simply cured with a swipe force close. I’d suggest you give PlexAmp a try for your listening experience rather than the regular Plex app. It’s plausible that PlexAmp receives the better updates of the two client apps available since PlexAmp has served as the experimental gut to what the regular Plex app wants to achieve.
I’m going to give that a shot. I didn’t even know Plexamp existed. I’m almost entirely using this for music, so seems like a better fit anyways. Thanks D_eight!
