(I have come across an issue where some dead DVR data in the database may slow down DVR discovery as we wait for timeout before respondng to plex web - this may delay discovery by 30 seconds)
Attached are the server logs - verbose. It takes a while to get them, as I have to anonymise by hand. If you need other logs from the whole file, that will take even longer.
I can’t delete the DVR, as the first screen is as attached - it then takes me to the set-up screen. No option to remove.
Why would you need to edit out local network IP Addresses from logs ? There should be no security / privacy impact for local subnet IP addresses
Can you tell me if the tuner is networked or USB ?
I need to see IP addresses for the local network and the DVR - if it is networked
Also would like to see the server IP address /subnet - so would be best to do the test after restarting the server so logs capture initial start
If this is networked DVR, Is uPnP enabled on the router?
If it is usb/pci i need the Plex Tuner Server logs as well
Also could you download the database and send me the zip privately
Just to add to my earlier feedback - we appear to be hanging on the DVR discovery and Plex Web is timing out and giving the error - hence the importance of seeing IP addresses and discovery actions by the server and what devices responded to the SSDP searches (assuming it is networked)
Log has lots of Netlink messages during the discovery
NetworkInterface: received Netlink message len=64, type=RTM_NEWLINK, flags=0x0
NetworkInterface: Netlink information message family=0, type=1, index=3, flags=0x1003, change=0x0
Network change.
NetworkInterface: Notified of network changed (force=0)
sorry for the multiple posts - and please whilst we are troubleshooting this, do the tests on the server directly and not through a WAN connection or other subnet
With the greatest respect - why would I not anonymise my local network. Privacy works on least principles - but that is a discussion for a bar, not here.
The device is USB (Hauppauge wintv dual). I presume that means you don’t need the networking aspect - if thats not correct, let me know.
I’ve attached the tuner logs. If you need to see local connections, then that has to wait, until I am local.
Thank you - nothing in the log for 23rd July - last 20th
I wonder if this is recent change for linux / NAS where Plex Media Server user no longer has admin rights and may be for linux we need it for USB tuners. (Just thinking out aloud whilst continuing to investigate)
id plex
uid=123(plex) gid=127(plex) groups=127(plex),0(root),44(video)
I still get the ‘set-up DVR’ page.
It does look like a time-out issue. When I first go to the page, it tries to find the device - spins for a few seconds, then comes back with “Unable to load DVRs” and then redirects to the ‘setup plex DVR’ (as it should)
@jester_tenet I also use the WinTV DualHD tuners under Ubuntu, and for Plex to see them I’ve had to add the PPA that’s on Hauppage website to add them to the kernel.
This way I got them to be seen in Plex and for them to be able to tune channels without a hitch.
Not sure if this is your issue? But something isn’t right though…
So they should be in there. The system was working up until 1.16.2.1297 (its been running fine for about a year now). That doesn’t mean that it isn’t a linux thing, just that the plex update was the moment it started failing.
@jester_tenet Yeah those are the ones
Very strange issue there then… I’m having to give up on the live TV side from next month as the area of the Valleys in South Wales I’m moving to with the family can only receive around 40 channels, which is bad, so I’m having to opt to streaming TV services, and Freesat.
Now, if only Plex could get satellite compatibly added to the server, I’d add 2 dual receive tuners for Freesat and use live TV that way.
Either way, I’ll still be using Plex, but only for watching movies stored on the drives
@JCHH: absolutely, good analogy - my concern (and I am willing to admit that I am a privacy advocate) is that, the thread itself identifies my country, the URLs would expose my servers external IP address, where I am logging into it from along with other details, such as where I have been, what events I have attended, what my users are called etc. Why release more, when the minimum is required?
I admit that the local IP is probably the least interesting of those, but whilst I am anonymising other entries, why not just get rid of that as well (without knowing if it is required or not). I prefer to provide information as the exception, rather than the rule … but thats just me
@JCHH You are one of a few that class Wales as a country, but if Brexit goes the way it is… Anyway, I’ve definitely given up on the whole live TV section of Plex, especially with my upcoming move in May as I’ll be dropping to 24 channels of FreeView, and the only way is either Freesat which is a no go, or streaming Freeview by Android apps from various broadcasters.
If Plex ever did start supporting Satellite TV, it’ll be the greatest Media Server, but sadly it’s not, but as for the rest of Plex, I’ll still be using it as my internal go to for my stored movies and TV shows, plus photos that I upload when I’m out and about.
This is the reason I chose Plex in the first place, and to stream my music collection that I’ve grown over the years, but the live TV side just isn’t for me now, and I’ll soon be selling 3 WinTV DualHD tuners if any UK Plex user is interested?
…and streaming is getting worse. Plex has started transcoding my mp4’s to Apple TV for no apparent reason and I am getting “your network isn’t fast enough” errors popping up since I upgraded to the latest version today .
