UK EPG, any scripts that I can run to force a full EPG download

Specific examples and logs and copy of the tv.plex EPG database files would help in understanding the issue

There were issues with connections to the EPG provider in February and resolved in the first week of March. There were further failures in April 5-15 and May 15.

I honestly can’t remember an occasion when this was working … its just a thing that I need to do a manual full refresh every week.

I’d also really like a full refresh as an option in the settings menu, even if its taken away again once the issue has been fixed.

I’m seriously unimpressed that an apparently simple issue, for which there is a known solution, is still unresolved. Has anyone tried TVMosaic? Seems to offer the same TV functionality as Plex, and improvements as time goes on.

If you have a problem please provide debug logs when the problem shows up with details of what the problem is plus a copy of the EPG database files which is within the Plug-in Support\Databases folder with file names starting with tv.plex

@sa2000 well I hope you like log files cuz if everyone on here with the issue submits them you’re going to have a lot to wade through  I did a full refresh a couple of days ago and ā€˜to be announced’-gate has returned as of 6am today, how would you like my debug logs and EPG files shared with you?

The ā€œTo Be Announcedā€ issue was already mentioned by me as one of two known problem areas - See my post UK EPG, any scripts that I can run to force a full EPG download - #81 by sa2000

If you have other issues with the guide, then please provide details and logs and copy of the EPG database files.

@sa2000 when you say ā€œwhen the problem shows upā€ what is the best time to provide log files?

The problem is constant as far as I can see and is only resolved by a full manual refresh.
When does plex usually do a ā€œbackgroundā€ refresh - I can look to get you logs from that time.

which problem?

The ā€œTo Be Announcedā€ issue is caused by delayed availability of program data

Plex Media Server does an incremental check every 4 hours covering the programs today and next 24 hours and also extending the end of the 2 weeks period

I’d like to help with logs on this issue, but as I was kindly provided with a python script that does a full EPG download everyday on my Media Server, it works very well and I don’t have any issues that I can provide logs for?

This is what is not working. Nothing past the next 2 days shows in the EPG shows unless you do a manual refresh. It doesn’t extend the end of the 2 week period, unless a manual refresh is done when it grabs as far as the you can go forward in the EPG.

In fact, I believe you can only get a week or perhaps 8 days, because if you don’t manually refresh after 3/4 days, the furthest you can go in the EPG starts showing as To Be Announced.

I can’t screenshot this at the moment as I’ve done a full refresh last night. (and I must get round to installing the python script)

Turns out I can show a screenshot as some channels are showing as To Be Announced. The BBC must send out more days data than the other channels.

Perhaps the problem is that Plex expects 2 weeks and adds to the end of 2 weeks, but if there is less data than 2 weeks, there becomes a gap.

This is next Saturday

This can arise if the Plex Media Server is unable to do any incremental refreshes for a number of days - for each day this happens the guide data is reduced and after a period of time the guide becomes empty.

If the issue is continuing and the incremental updates are failing to get data then logs covering a period of 5 hours (or more ) would be the start of investigation

If the issue is not continuing and every day the guide data is getting new data added, then the logs that would be needed are those for when the issue with incremental updates arose

The last issue with the EPG service was May 17 to May 19 with some areas with few users affected for from May 1st

Yes that is possible.

The delayed availability of EPG data is acknowledged as a problem area and like all acknowledged issues, solutions may come at some point in time. I cannot give any dates but it is acknowledged and there is a registered internal issue to do with incremental updates and filling of gaps.

There was also the suggestion to consider some full refreshes in scheduled tasks and I mentioned that in my earlier response UK EPG, any scripts that I can run to force a full EPG download - #81 by sa2000

You might also want to consider pulling in the ā€œliveā€ guide data from the DVB streams as well. If memory serves me correctly back in the day of Windows Media Center, Microsoft had issues with the quality of the downloaded guide data from some providers and it wasn’t until they pulled in the data from the DVB stream and merged that with the downloaded data that the DVR functionality became reliable.

Not only that but using the DVB stream data also tells you when shows are about to start / finish / running late etc… because of live events, extended news coverage or last minute schedule changes such as shows being pulled.

I strongly agree with this, the over the air data is far more reliable and just as rich. The gracenote data really trails off after 3-5 days, it makes it look like it’s an issue with Plex.

If they go the route of OTA data, I hope it is made optional

Not sure if posters are from the UK (as per thread title), but the OTA EPG from Freeview is awful, I would give up on Plex for recording if this data is used

I would rather have the current issues with Gracenote, instead of totally losing Series record if the OTA epg is used

@sa2000 @paulsalter and all,
Plex Live TV EPG here in the Rhondda Valleys has totally failed BIG time!!
I’ve now lost channels my 3 year old son watches yet on a full retune they are there, I would love Gracenote to be kicked up the rear end and Plex to use something else pretty quickly, as with the channels lost, there are also channels being transmitted that Plex see’s but no EPG data, and yes my Freeview TV actually see’s and views them, and a few are radio channels.
@sa2000 It’s now getting beyond a joke, why is it taking so long to fix this issue that’s been there since the Live TV side of the PMS started? As I’ve said in a few posts, and I still stick to it, Plex Dev’s are just more interested in getting ā€œCOOL NEW FEATURESā€ working, let alone getting the more important ones fixed first!!

Maybe if there were a mass migration to another Media Server Plex Dev’s would actually begin to sit up, smell the coffee and pull their fingers out from whichever hole they’ve got them stuck in, and finally fix things?

Anyway, rant over and I am now seriously considering going elsewhere, Logs won’t show the dropped EPG channels, if you look at Gracenote you’d see what I’m on about, they’re in the 200’s!!

Dave

I am sorry about this. There was some caching issue and a change has just been made

Please try to refresh the guide now.

I have passed your comments to the development team

Well, since updating to Version 1.16.1.1291;

The EPG doesn’t seem to be downloading (as it stands, it runs out on Sunday @ 6am - full of TBA, even on BBC channels, schedules for which can be seen well in advance.

The ā€˜refresh TV guide’ button no longer works (this was the workaround for me previously). By not working, I mean ā€˜click on it, nothing happens - no refresh, not even a failed refresh’.

And right now, my TV tuner isn’t being found - it just says ā€˜Unable to load DVRs’. This is probably not linked to the EPG, as it is more recent.

All in all, from a consumer point of view, its getting worse - not better.

Plex can you please revert back to Gracenote for the next couple of months for the EPG, and do a lot of internal testing before you switch back to Powered by Plex, which does not work at the moment, and needs a lot of testing before it may work as well as Gracenote :sob:
