Unable to access PMS running on Synology NAS from clients

NAS model - DS214play
DSM version - DSM 6.2.2.24922 Update 4
PMS version - PlexMediaServer-1.18.4.2171-ac2afe5f8-x86

About a month ago, I lost the ability for clients to access PMS running on my DS214 play after a few years of smooth sailing. I’ve tried reinstalling and toggling various settings to no avail. PMS appears to be running in DSM in that I can Stop, Start, Manual Install, etc. Some symptoms:

  • From within DSM Package Manager, clicking Open gives me "The site can’t be reached / xxx.xxx.x.xx refused to connect / ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED
  • When trying to access from my Smart TV, the app logs in as normal and if I go to Media Server Status, the “Get your Plex Media Server” message is displayed
  • From a browser in Incognito Mode, clicking Launch and then Your Media also produces a “Get your Plex Media Server” message

My NAS media is only accessible on the LAN (not through the internet). Using DS Video and my phone or my Smart TV’s Photo & Video app I can play a subset of my media on the TV. Logs are available through DSM File Station but I’m a little hesitant to post them due to privacy/security concerns.

At this point I’m flailing, missing PMS quite a bit and unsure how to proceed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I experienced the same. It is due to changes in DSM from Synology and access management. I had to reinstall PMS on the NAS, but also had to swipe out the plex folder on the NAS and (let) Plex make a new one and change access in DSM. DSM now is more aggressive in blocking access without explicit authorization.

Thank you very much, DrPSARenaud for taking the time to respond and for sharing the tip. Deleting the Plex folder succeeded where previous reinstallations did not and everything is working again. It’s a shame that was necessary and that it happened without warning but this has made me realize how essential PMS is to me. Again, sincere thanks.
