May I be of assistance here?
Are you running Plex on a Synology NAS with DSM 7?
If yes, stop PMS, wait ~30 sec, then restart PMS and see if the server is claimed.
If that does not work, download and run v1.11.0 of the User Credential Reset utility (updated late yesterday).
The previous version, v1.0.9, has a typo preventing it from working on DSM 7 based NAS. It does not stop/start Plex Media Server before/after updating the preferences.xml file.
If successful, the script will display Claim completed without errors. If it does not do so, then post the output to the thread.
Here’s the output running on my DS918+:
$ sudo ./UserCredentialReset.sh claim-3SckKs4cu27w9XwtpJ2X
User credential reset & reclaim tool for Plex Media Server (Linux) (Synology (DSM 7))
(Version: v1.11.0)
This utility will reset the server's credentials.
It will next reclaim the server for you using a Plex Claim token you provide from https://plex.tv/claim
Using given claim token: 'claim-3SckKs4cu27w9XwtpJ2X'

It is not my case; I run Plex (snap) on Ubuntu (miniPC). After running the script. the server is claimed OK and everything looks good; but when I try to connect from my TV (Android TV-box), I see the PMS but with a red triangle (warning sign) and cannot connect to him; this is, the PMS is recognized, but not able to show its libraries
If a logout/login does not work:
Check for updates to the Plex Android TV app.
Log out of the Plex app on the Android TV box.
Delete the Android TV box from Authorized Devices. Do not delete your server or you will have to reclaim it again.
Reboot the Android TV box.
Launch the Plex app and login.
!!SYNOLOGY USERS!! All you have to do is uninstall the app (Being careful not to fully uninstall) as it gives you a choice to uninstall and “Un-Claim” server (Basicly don’t do anything in red text). then just reinstall and you can use the claim code system Plex has in place. Worked almost instantly after that!!
With screenshots: FAQ 31: Reset / Reclaim PMS on DSM 7 (Not Authorized - Locked Out)
I just got another mail about (this or another???) security incident, to go to this page: https://links.plex.tv/s/vb/HehEZB8bgF38Nmmel6162-WIbcIVXKxNfe734N7UZZ-eY5ZVwZOpw8kFqNRdApOvqR-I_q3jTt2k79PCA4xao8AX7-5J-cHtTT2pRJUI9zR5SHRx1qtFwTlIst8z5vdl9uK_zLZYZrjylQ/IhHSAavjU20BYMCHt9FakmOA3rKzkIfA/12
The information is not dated, so I can’t tell if it’s talking about the security incident from last week or another more recent one. The unhelpful advice doesn’t deal with all the unaddressed technical issues that fell out from last week’s breach. It leaves with me questions such as " do I need to change my password AGAIN?"
The fact that none of this news is dated or contextualised within company blog, news etc is disturbing, as if Plex is trying to sweep it under the rug.
Working in cybersecurity myself, this is just messed up.Plex is not taking any of this seriously.
That is the message that went to people that use SSO to sign in to their accounts. It does not say to change your password, only that it will sign you out of all devices, including your server.
The messages were staged to go out over several days. The one you received today may just be a the end of the queue.
If you’ve already changed your password and reclaimed your server, consider waiting a bit before repeating the process. The e-mails have been mentioned on other threads as well.
Same here, is there a vaccine for this?
I am not a SSO user and none of the advice for reclaiming my server worked.
I had already followed advice from earlier email. However the undated nature of the messaging means it is not clear which incident they are referring to. It is not uncommon to have a series of breaches due to additional vulnerabilities being exploited.
I traded messages with a Plex employee regarding the notification e-mails.
The e-mails regarding the security incident (announcement) are still going out.
The messages for accounts using a password vs SSO login are worded differently, as different action is required based on the login method.
If you’ve multiple Plex accounts, then you will receive multiple e-mails.
Check the TO: address in the e-mail to see which account received which e-mail.
Each e-mail address should receive only one notice, but it isn’t 100% impossible that a second might be received.
Is your server still unclaimed?
If so, what platform - Windows, Docker, NAS, etc.?
Try to change the - internal - IP address of the Plex host.
For me on Asustor that brang back the new creation (I was after full NAS reset…)
I was able to solve this with the easiest solution.
-
Uninstall PLEX on NAS. There is an option to “Uninstall Only” keeping files for future installation
-
Then reinstall. There is an option for “Clean install” or with Token. Select with Token and there is a link to get the token.
-
Once you get the token, you place it in the box and continue and that’s it.
Easiest way, literally 2 minutes
Bonjour j’ai le même soucis je ne peux plus me connecter à mon NAS via Plex depuis mon reset de mot de passe, ça fait 4-5 jours que je m’y casse les dents
For all native DSM 7 Synology installations.
anyone has a suggestion how to solve this? I change the preferences file, installed the latest update. Not sure what to try else, i’m using synology
@fnaudi
See the post immediately above yours.
If running DSM 6, use FAQ 15 instead.
I looked at your Plex.tv account.
I see two DS923+ servers with the same name.
One was just claimed (has what looks like a new Preferences.xml ID set).
This created a second instance (the duplicate name)
The other server has not been seen.
If you have your DSM 7 server up and running, I can remove that older / inactive server for you.
Please advise
dsm7.2. Managed to solve it by reinstalling the server itself. Thanks for helping!
