Unable to access server after password reset

Hi ChuckPa, managed to solve it over the night. Thanks for sharing appreciate!

I have not been able to get plex to work correctly since the password reset. When I go into my account via the web page (Version 4.152.0) THERE ARE NO SERVERS LISTED TO CLAIM! There are no devices signed into my account beyond the PC I am currently using because it hasn’t worked correctly since the password reset fiasco. I’m at wits end! I paid for plex pass years ago and until this fiasco it has worked more or less as I wished. I do not care about reclaiming my old server. I do not know what the name/ID was and at this point as I have reinstalled Windows 10 in an effort to uninstall Emby the old server is byond my reach anyway.

I currently installed:

Windows 10 (version 1607) or newer (Intel or AMD processors only)
v.1.42.2.10156-f737b826c September 18, 2025

I installed the windows 10 version of Plex which seems to be an app rather like the browser interface I’m more used to but neither the app nor the web browser can see the running server. The server does seem to be running per task manager but thats the only place I can see that it’s doing anything.

I’m beyond frustrated but I paid for the plex pass so I really want to fix this! Please help!

I looked at your account on Plex.tv

ALL “262” server instances have been deleted.

  • 262 “Windows” machine
  • 262 “Ubuntu” machine
  • 262 “Mint”

Are you using the Windows Plex DESKTOP app and the server was elsewhere ?

Where should the server be running?

I have two windows based PCs. One running windows 11 and one running windows 10. The windows 10 machine is where I want the server to run on and eventually that PC will be switched to some form of Linux. I did try it on the Windows 11 machine but encountered the same problem & I don’t want it on my primary PC so I deleted it from that PC.

Right now I have the server downloaded from Plex installed on the Windows 10 machine.

I just tried logging in via the IP address + “32400” and it doesn’t see the server program running despite the fact that task manager says it is running. When I log in via the IP address I land on the “Get plex media server” page but with my IP address in the address bar.

I’ve tried this without success. It says “Initializing Plex Media Server…” spinning circle just spins and spins and spins… how long should I wait for the spinning to stop? I’ve given it several minutes so far… I’ll go have breakfast and see what happens…. Ok. It failed. “Something went wrong. Make sure the server is available and try again.”

I went back to task manager and clicked on the Plex Server. It shows it as running but it also shows a few things as “disabled” under “UAC virtualization” Is that important? Do I need to change that somehow?

Update: I think this may have done it! My account is now showing my server!!! I have to reconnect my media drives which I’ll do after breakfast but THANK YOU!!! This is more progress than before in the last few weeks!

Now will I destroy my progress by trying to move this to Linux now? What do I need to write down to ensure I can reactivate my server once Linux replaces Windows 10?

I’m having the same problem: I can’t see my media files on PLEX. Server is Windows 10, client is web browser on another Windows computer on the same network. I’ve attempted several recommend fixes with no result. I have never succeeded in seeing the ‘claim server’ button.

Try this posters suggestion, it seems to have worked for me:

Best of luck!

Claim your serve from the server machine itself. Doing it from another machine is tricky.

I thought I had it up and running. It scanned all my libraries but I’m still having problems. My Roku Ultra can see my new server… when it comes to the OTA antenna tuner but it can’t see my media libraries. When I go to Live TV it shows the new server, all the local over the air stations and the DVR capabilities. When I go to Libraries however it shows the old sever name and says it can’t connect. I’ve tried factory resetting the ROKU device and signing in with a new account but it doesn’t change anything. When I sign into the Plex app on the ROKU it still sees the old sever for the libraries and the new server for the Antenna channels. I feel like I’m going insane. How do I fix this as it doesn’t seem to be an issue on the ROKU side of things.

After the password change your server and library ID’s changed also.

Go to the Roku Plex app and unpin all of the old libraries and then re-pin them.

Doing that will ensure you have the libraries with their new ID’s pinned in place and they should be accessible etc. from the Roku Plex app.

Hopefully, this page will help explain things for you:

This video may help also:

With the old Plex Roku app interface shown in your now outdated video maybe but the new interface doesn’t seem to have any method for pinning anything to anywhere. I did figure out that some of my media is showing up now so hopefully by tomorrow the old server stuff will all disappear since it doesn’t exist anymore and just the new server stuff will be there. With the new interface every library folder is beside the others in one long irritating row near the top of the screen. I don’t know how anything could be pinned to that mess anyway.

In the new interface, it’s called “Favorite.” You can (un)mark a library as a favorite by heading to the library tab and then clicking the ellipsis item in the library selector. This will show all your libraries, with a heart next to each (either empty or filled). Filled means it’s a “favorite,” the equivalent of pinning in the old interface.

Unfavorite all of your “old” server’s libraries, and then favorite the ones from the “new” server. This should restore order to your Home Screen.

None of my “old library” files appear in the “favorites” menu so none are marked. I did mark all of the new servers libraries but for the moment it’s 50/50 as to what does and doesn’t show up. I’m going to give it the night to sort itself out. Tomorrow, probably after lunch if that early, I’ll check on it and see what still needs fussed with. I hate change and the new Roku interface is CHANGE in the extreme. Oh well, adapt and overcome as they say…

Yeah I wasn’t sure what interface the Roku was using. My Fire TV still uses the interface shown in the video, but my Android phone uses the interface you described for the Roku.

I don’t care for it much either, but as @pshanew pointed out, pinning and unpinning is similar just in a different location now.

In any case, I hope the interface sorts itself out for you.

Best of luck and Happy Plexing!

My media libraries now show up correctly on my Roku, (although I still absolutely HATE the new interface).

The #1 reason I purchased a Plex pass was to be able to integrate my local OTA channels into Plex. I do not watch, want, or even want to see the “Plex Live Channels”. I DO want my 56 local Over The Air local stations! My HD HomeRun DVR is still working perfectly but Plex is no longer showing it. I can’t even find a menu to add it back.

I’ve now switched my old Win 10 PC to Ubuntu so now it seems I’m off to figuring out Jellyfin. I’m extremely dissatisfied with the current horrible mess Plex is forcing down our throats whether we like it or not.

I still cannot access the PMS either from my android set-top-box, nor my android tablet; however, I can access from fire-tv Plex app. I’ve claim the server using the .sh utility; I’ve login-logout; uninstall and reinstall both the server and the client. Unclaim and reclaim the server, but nothing works. It has been two weeks and I cannot see my contents on my TV. Can anyone from Plex provide any clue on what’s going on?

My setup, PMS running on Ubuntu 24.04.03, and clients with this issue are Android apps on set-top-box and tablet (Samsung)

PMS and your android devices don’t give up that easily on using your old data.

On your android device and the Plex app open, tap on your user icon (usually in the upper right corner). Tap on Settings → Account → Sign Out (Confirm or Continue)

Go to a web browser and bring up the Plex Web Client. Tap on Settings (wrench icon) → Authorized Devices. If you tap on the All(down arrow), it will give you a drop down menu where you can choose android devices. On any instance of the android device, hit the X delete icon, confirm.

Both the PMS and the android device should now have a clean slate to start a new connection. Go back to the Plex app on your android device and sign in.

Did you try deleting the DVR and adding it back in? Settings → Manage → Live TV & DVR → Delete DVR. It should then give you the option to add the HDHomerun back in.

Same problem here - now I am a bit mor relaxed because obviously you other guys have the same issues - annoying
