Unable to access server after password reset

I’m having the same issue after password change. Logged out of all devices. Log in, server shows for a second then disappears. No option to reclaim.

Then I shutdown the server, removed the preferences.xml, restarted server, still no server claim option showing.

Yep, I think you are on the right track. I did the following:

  1. Change password.
  2. Removed all authorized devices. (Doesn’t really matter order of steps 1 and 2 here).
  3. Sign-in again if you need to. Get new claim token (https://plex.tv/claim)
  4. Paste the claim token into Plex docker container config and start/restart container.

Everything good again (for me). Pinned libraries still there. Of course, will need to sign-in client Plex apps (and have Tautulli obtain a new token). Plex buddies don’t have to do anything to retain remote streaming access my Plex Media Server libraries.

If it doesn’t work for you I suggest… don’t panic, deep breath and try again in 5 minutes. Best of luck.

I have access to my server but my friends don’t since this morning

@xfce131945 that is a different issue. You likely need to update your server. Plex Media Server - Security Update - #3 by PlexInfo

Did it all, as many have. Did not work.

There is no option to claim the server. Log in via web portal, no access to the servers. No option to claim them.

what URL are you using? are you on local network?

I ended up reinstalling plex and using a new claim code, every other way is borked right now.

Get new claim token (https://plex.tv/claim)

Same issue, had to reclaim my server by going to [IP]:32400/web . (I was not able to do it on my main machine that I was already logged in on for some reason, managed to claim it from another client in my local network.)

What is going on?

“We believe the actual impact of this incident is limited” Obviously the impact is NOT limited.

Yes, the local network. ipaddress:32400/web.

Just did a full reinstall. Loads of reconfiguration to do but at least I have a working server now. Ridiculous.

It was referring to how many folks might have actually got any thing comprised. Not how many people are having issues claiming after reset.

Wouldn’t having your Plex server go unclaimed all of a sudden count as “compromised”? The first thing users are going to do when they reset their password and login is make sure everything looks normal. It sure didn’t for me (and it seems for a lot of other people). Would be nice to not have to panic, so a notice in the e-mail would have been nice.

Got the solution! Follow these steps: Reddit - The heart of the internet

Synology users:

The package has the ability to reclaim the server for you after being signed out (Password change - forced signout)

Other Linux users:

Grab the tar.gz or ZIP file from here

Place it on the linux host,
Open the command line on that host,
unzip / untar it there
run it there.

I hope we get some sort of incident report after this. Having to reset our passwords is serious enough, but these reclaim issues that followed need to be addressed.

I am referring to this from announcement.

totally frustrated. i did try the registry hack to no avail. lost all of my libraries. i sure hope Plex give us some usable instructions on how to get this fixed.

@shard01

Which server are you running?

Linux, Syno, or QNAP ?

I’m in the same boat as the rest of you (if you’re not working). I’m running Plex on a DSM NAS.

I followed the instructions in the link on the “Unable to access server…” except that I don’t have any Plex-related Registry entries.

I removed all Authorized Devices (but wasn’t able to remove the DSM device). I’ve rebooted the DSM storage device several times. No change.

I have a claim code but no place in the Settings to enter it.

Not impressed with this process.

I followed the instructions to a T and lost my server, all of my libraries, everything is gone. I don’t have access to all of the settings I used to and I have no option to enter a “claim code” anywhere. All I did was change my fn password because Plex told us to. This is ridiculous and I want my money back for the lifetime pass if this can’t be fixed. Someone please help!
