I am trying to add a specific show, when going to https://www.thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=340321&lid=7 I note that the name of the series has a : separator.
I have lots of other series that add without an issue but for some reason Plex only sees Street Outlaws New Orleans and not Street Outlaws Memphis, I have both on my media server
How are your files named and organized in subfolders?
Yip, like all my other media files
c:\Series Name\Season 01\Series Name S01e01 Title

Which path did you add to your library? Just c: or c:\Series Name
Neither will work reliably.
You need a general folder for series.
Then put all your series underneath it.
e.g.
c:\TV Shows\
Series Name\
Season 01\
Series Name - S01e01 - Title
Series Name - S01e02 - Title
...
Another Series Name\
Season 01\
Another Series Name - S01e01 - Title
Another Series Name - S01e02 - Title
...
You then add only c:\TV Shows to your Plex library.
Do also this:
Go to Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
+
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
+
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
After doing all of the above, perform the Plex Dance with each of the mis-matched series separately.
I have the same issue with this specific show… Clearly Plex has an issue with that show.
How do we get this fixed?
It has nothing to do with how the show is stored/directory structure.

Plex’s TVDB Disaster Comes Home To Roost:
No amount of proper naming/structuring cures what ails this show (and the other Versions of it - along with many, many, many more as time goes on).
Trust me - I know… tried it myself and was handed one slice of fail cake after another.
Options:
- Keep hammering away at Fix Match - and changing the search parameters - in the hope that the proper show appears in the list.
- Hand Edit Everything - and prepare to do it again on the next scheduled library scan - if you don’t move all of these shows to a library that uses The Personal Media Agent.
For this show, Plex is locked in a fatal wing-stall/tail-spin because Plex is trying to default to the most recent ‘Version’ of this show. Unfortunately (almost?) ALL the versions of this show are from 2018 and Plex doesn’t know whether to wind it’s watch, or scratch it’s @SS - and that’s pretty much what we told Plex was going to happen the day they decided it was a good idea to NOT use the name TVDB uses (Plex’s ONLY TV Show Database).
Plex knew what they were doing was a BAD IDEA - but they did it anyway.
Plex doesn’t admit mistakes and return things to the good old days (in this case - using the name TVDB uses). Plex will commit untold time and resources on a ‘fix’ that will never work…
or
simply claim there is no problem and do nothing (this one actually gets my vote as the most likely outcome).
To:
@Rapido22 and @notoriousvr I wish you luck…
You’re gonna need it.
Disclaimer for @notoriousvr …:
File Naming/Structure - has EVERYTHING to do with TV Show matching success rates. If you’re not following the TV Show file naming and structuring guidelines to the letter - your Plex career is going to be unpleasant, tedious and quite painful. Having said that - these shows are going to be a PITA because for these shows - Plex is truly off-the-rails.
Note:
Today, TVDB is also off-the-rails:
https://www.thetvdb.com/
Better hit that link and see if it’s working 'cause if it’s not that means TVDB and The Plex Proxy have left the building… best try to ‘Fix Match’ later - or something…

Because it’s the only show in my entire Directory that doesn’t get recognized, that’s how I know it’s a Plex issue with that specific show.
@JuiceWSA I’m well aware about how the directories are supposed to be structured. This is specific to one show (out of 145 total) that is not showing up.
That said… I don’t see a way to even manually add the show? My issues isn’t that it shows up wrong. It doesn’t show up at all.
EDIT: Got it to work by incorrectly adding (2017) to the Shows directory name (like you linked here: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1627059/#Comment_1627059) and it found it and processed the episodes. Had to manually add the poster though. For now I guess it’s ok.
Stupid but just another Plex nonsense I guess.
