Unable to claim Plex Server - out of the blue NEW problem

Server Version#: 1.16.3.1433
Player Version#: TV…

Error: An unclaimed media server has been found on your network. Claim it now

I try via the TV, and the server itself, and nothing works.

This suddenly started last night when I accessed it via my synology to find out where my TV shows went. Aside from missing TV Shows, plex ran fine wednesday night.

Thursday night nothing worked. Nothing here changed, no network changes ect. (I live alone)

I logged into plex to find nothing. EVERYTHING was gone and it claimed it couldnt find the server.

Soo, I stopped, and restarted the service, uninstall, reinstall, manual update, then used the update file off the plex website to do a fresh manual install, multiple reboots of the synology.

Log in, log out so many times I have lost count.

delete the app off the tv, reinstall the app on the tv, delete the old server out of the devices list, and now I cant claim the server via the web or the TV…

on the TV it says ’ sucks to be you ‘remind me later or try again’ which results in the same error over and over.

on the web the button gets a circle thing like its prentending to do something and then nothing happens.

I am at a total loss at this point.

Oh and I did the user permissions thing, gave plex FULL admin control… nope, still doesnt work

  • Please open File Station.

  • Navigate to the Plex share.

  1. If you don’t see it, go to Control Panel - Shared Folders - Permissions
  2. Give your username permission to R/W the Plex share
  • Now navigate Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server
  • Right-click on Logs and then Compress to Logs.zip
  • Download that file to your computer (single click)
  • upload here.

…removed file

Looks like a communications error (getting a timeout) trying to connect to Plex.tv

Which of your two ethernet adapters is the default gateway: 192.168.2.35 or 192.168.0.5 ?
Which does Synology show in Control Panel - Network - under each adapter as the Default Gateway.

the othere cable is disconnected, and has been for months.

Ok… then time to start tracing from the Syno itself. With 192.168.0.5 set as the Default Gateway, does it see the Synology Package Center ok?

Yep. even downloaded a couple things because that was my thought

Can you get into it (ssh) ?

once at the command line. traceroute plex.tv and watch for errors / timeouts. It may go only 30 hops.

thats over my head, but if you have a tutorial I can follow…

Windows laptop/desktop?

windows 10 deskstop

go get the program Putty (ssh / telnet client application) and install it. It let’s you talk to the Synology at the command line and do things the GUI won’t.

Then. On the Synology:

  1. Control Panel - Terminal & SNMP - Enable SSH (make sure it shows port 22)
  2. With Putty installed, open it
  3. Create a SSH session to the IP of the syno and connect to it.
  4. Log in as any user (your username will do) if it has Administrative privilege.
  5. Then, At the command line prompt (looks like DOS because DOS and Linux have the same roots)
  6. type traceroute www.plex.tv
  7. type traceroute plex.tv (the other side of plex.tv)

Both of these should come back with output and reasonable times. (no timeouts)

This is a full example. We don’t need the Tunnel part but save the info. It sometimes comes in handly. I provide it here so you can see a successful putty session started.
