Unable to install Plex after migration to DSM7

Hello

I had a hard time updating my D418play to DSM7.
The installation of the PMS package for DSM7 is impossible.
I get a message “Installation failed”…

I have checked all the permissions on the folders containing the media. Granted administrator rights to the Plex user…

But it doesn’t work and I’m desperate.

If someone has an idea ?

That’s already done… I tryed everything I seen in this topic, but no effect :frowning:

PlexMediaServer-1.23.4.4712-1f0ed4aea-x86_64_DSM7.spk for my DS418 play

The installation starts and after several tens of minutes, I have as already explained, a message “Installation failed”. Nothing else.

I’m trying again. The installation is still in progress since 40mn… My library is big and I think that’s why it takes so long?

@Epicurien69

One user had his library migrating for 12 hours,

We interrupted it.

Examination of the logs showed everything was normal.

Deeper investigation showed he had 426 GB of metadata :man_facepalming:

I migrated it manually since we had interrupted it.
Manual migration required 2 hours!!!

He has specific instructions now about what to do if transcoding fails for any “Extras”.

On Average — 40 minutes is not a long time

Not a long time but at 40-45mn the installation process systematically stop

And the only thing I can do is to reboot my NAS and desinstall

@Epicurien69

Rather than reboot the NAS,

System monitor → Processes →

Show me the processes…

There will be dsm7-migration-tool, find. realpath, and chown. floating around.

If they are running then your library is progressing.

You may also inspect Migration.log in the Plex shared folder.

ZIP and attach please

I just tryed to reinstall DSM7 and just launch a new PMS installation.
Then, I will provide you screen copy and log file :wink:
Let see
Thanks for your support

Here is the complete list of running processes while the installation is still running (not yet got the famous error message for the moment)

Process.zip (1,2 Mo)

At the moment, the migration.log only contain :
Plex Media Server migration to DSM 7 started: Sat Jul 3 23:13:31 CEST 2021
=== Sat Jul 3 23:13:32 CEST 2021 === Start: Change ownership

I should also mention that my library is huge

Just after the error msg , the migration/log contain :
Plex Media Server migration to DSM 7 started: Sat Jul 3 23:13:31 CEST 2021
=== Sat Jul 3 23:13:32 CEST 2021 === Start: Change ownership

@Epicurien69

What is Process.zip ?

I get an error and cannot open it

If it is a screenshot – drag and drop it into the forum

it’s an archive of 10 picture.
Rename it in RAR instead ZIP :wink:

Drag and drop the pictures please.

You must have a lot of media .

I see it doing what it is supposed to.

It is at the point now of changing the ownership for ALL the files in the Plex share from user plex to user PlexMediaServer

yes, I have tens of thousands of media (movies, music and photos).

My library folder is several tens of GB

You will be here for many hours while it runs.

Be patient with it.

I have tested it with 250,000 media items and it has not failed.

ok I will wait…Let see :wink:

thx

The speed of the CPU and speed of the hard drives determines how fast this runs.

  1. Each file of metadata (Media directory and Metadata directory) is checked using ‘realpath’.

  2. Every file has the ownership changed
