Unable to open Plex web UI "ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE"

Server Version#: latest public
Player Version#: latest public

I just got my new DS1019+ up and running with all my plex media copied onto it. I’ve started to install plex onto it but when I try to open the web UI I get “ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE”. So I genuinely cannot set up or change any settings in plex until I get past this issue.

I opened all the necessary ports for plex on the NAS and tested them to make sure they are actually open.

At the moment the NAS has to be connected via wifi adapter which works fine for everything else.

I have tried http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web , http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web and http://nas-name.us1.quickconnect.to:32400/web

I plan on migrating my plex data from my mac once the web UI opens. !

During initial setup, nothing can be remote. Forget the Syno QuickConnect and all that. Those cause problems.

Quicky questions:

  1. IP address of the syno?
  2. IP address of the computer?
  3. Both on the same LAN (side by side)?

The IP address of the NAS is 192.168.1.198
The IP address of my laptop is 192.168.1.166
They are both connected to the same wifi network

That might be the problem right there.

WiFi tends to isolate hosts from each other. (WiFi isolation mode)
They both can see the internet, sometimes detect each other, but, in most cases, can’t talk to each other.

A server on WiFi is never a good idea. It’s always best to make the server wired.
If WiFi, it’s subject to the restrictions and traffic waiting load of the rest of the WiFi. The result is a bad experience in almost every case.

I urge getting a piece of cable and plugging the Syno directly into the modem/router/wifi box and letting it have a wired IP address.
