Unable to play content from Plex server hosted on Synology via Plex Roku app on remote network - "App cannot direct play this item. Direct play is disabled." Error message

Server Version#: 1.21.0.3744 (on Synology)
Player Version#: 7.0.9.7701-ae32f86-af-Plex (on Roku)

I’m able to play content via Roku Plex app on my local network from Plex Server on my Synology NAS.

When attempting to play that same content on the same model Roku with the same version Plex app remotely (streaming the content from my home Synology to the Roku at a remote location) I receive an error “App cannot direct pay this item. Direct play is disabled.”. I’m able to see all my content available, but unable to play any of it.

I have Plex Pass, which I believe is required to stream content to a remote Plex client outside of the network where the Plex Server is located. Is it correct to say that Plex Pass is required for that?

I have verified that the remote network has sufficient bandwidth to stream content, and I’m able to stream other content to Roku via the Plex app.

Are there settings I need to change on my Plex Server (hosted on Synology) in order to allow streaming of content to a remote network?

I’ve tried finding other Support issues that address this problem

This post helped me understand Direct Play vs Direct Stream:

" Direct Play means the original file is sent 100% intact to the player. So the player has to parse the container file format, play the correct streams, get timing correct between the container and each stream, and ignore any unused streams in the file.

Direct Stream means the Plex server extracts only the necessary video and audio (and subtitle) streams from the file, muxes them into a very simple container format, with interleaving suitable for streaming, and delivers that to the client.

In many cases, Direct Play is overrated, and Direct Stream is underrated. Direct Stream isn’t very difficult for a server, but it can make a file much more palatable to a client."
