Unable to play video on legacy samsung tv app after update

Server Version#:1.23.0.4459
Player Version#:2.011

It seems that after update the server to 1.23.0.4459, legacy samsung tv plex no longer able to play any contact, it keep showing unable to connect to content sever, no issue on other devices

May i know if this is intended? will will it be fix

Same problem here.
Have you find any previous version that works ?

I have the same problem any fix?

It woks fine for me, so more details are needed here besides unable to play video

We need the following:

  • more details about how it fails
  • Version of Orca client, as well as TV model
(Seen in the Orca client in preferences/About Plex)
  • Switch Orca client to send debug info to PMS
    (Preferences/General)
  • Switch PMS to Debug logging
    (WebClient/Settings/General)

Then reproduce, and upload a zip with the logs

i’m experiencing the same error as OP:
Any time I try to play any content on my Samsung Smart TV (SMART HUB) (using any method: auto, transcoding, etc.) I receive the error “unable to connect to the content server”.
I am able to watch on my phone and laptop without issues.

Plex version: 2.013
TV: UN40ES6100_USA is a E-Series (2012) model
PMS Version: 1.23.0.4459-20536d6fc

Switched back to Version 1.22.2.4282 . Now everything is fine.
So, definitely this is a server bug.
It`s manifesting only on old samsung smart tv …

Please, without logs there’s absolutely nothing we can do to help here

Hi @dane22,

the issue started from 1.23.0.4459 onwards, all other player on IOS, Andriod, plex web and Samsung tizen have no issue only on the legacy Samsung TV.

Hope you can assist

Server Version#:1.23.0.4497

Logs shows:

  • Your database is VERY busy, so please run an optimize
  • You enabled Verbose logging => We are drowning here in onfo, so please disable that, and restart PMS
  • You did not enable the option in the Orca client to send debug info to PMS
(We are missing log entries [PlexforSamsung])
(So please do that, and exit/restart Orca client)

After all of above, reproduce, and upload new logs

@dane22

Had optimize the server and on debug only

[Plex Media Server Logs_2021-05-09_13-27-24.zip|attachment]

below are the model of the affected tv
May 09, 2021 13:27:13.946 [0x7fc5f9683b38] DEBUG - [Now] Device is Samsung (TV UA40F5500).
May 09, 2021 13:27:13.946 [0x7fc5f9683b38] DEBUG - [Now] Profile is Samsung
(So please do that, and exit/restart Orca client)

Cool, I no longer see any VERBOSE logging, but I sadly also do not see lines like:

May 08, 2021 23:18:07.720 [0x7f855b6ecb38] DEBUG - [PlexforSamsung] [Categorie.js] - Setting: includeInGlobal, value: true, type: bool

Above is a log entry from an Orca Client, when it’s set to send debug logging to PMS, and will show in the Plex Media Server.log so are you 100% sure, that you enabled that option in the Orca client, and restarted it afterwards?

I did however notice this entry:

May 09, 2021 13:27:13.439 [0x7fc5fa3dab38] DEBUG - CERT: incomplete TLS handshake: unsupported protocol

So are you sure, that your PMS is set to:

Secure connections : Preferred in Setttings/Network

Also are you sure, that Strict TLS configuration is NOT selected

I have alwats strict tls selected. It worked before this bug with all tv. This is 100% not the problem.
The server could be accesed , you go into the menu, you can acces the info of the contect etc etc , the only problem is when you try to play it.

Switching back to Version 1.22.2.4282 with strict tls works perfect.

Not so !

The old samsung TV’s do NOT support newer chipers and encryption, so please do as I say

You dont pay attention to what im saying.
We have several tvs that worked before , with strict tls encryption. These tvs are not so old, they are 2018 version.
I switched back to Version 1.22.2.4282 ( launched on 6 april 2021 ) and it works.
i know what are you talking about, that problem with the old tvs happened year ago.
Once again : version from 6 april 2021 works perfectly with any settings , any version after, not working.
Just for you to understand it, i switched back to preffered tls ( not strict) and there`s the same problem…

Orca client only goes to 2015 versions!

Edit: so if you are having probs with the non legacy client, then please leave this thread, and start a new one!

"Yup its on since my first reply,

I did however notice this entry:

“Had change this required to Preferred, restart PMs, still the same”

May 10, 2021 20:33:49.335 [0x7fe0d3e78b38] DEBUG - CERT: incomplete TLS handshake: unsupported protocol

is still there, could this be due to my self sign cert? the cert are there since 2017

Also are you sure, that Strict TLS configuration is NOT selected
" yup its not selected, if its on i wont be able to connect at all, the issue now i can connect to the server but when trying to play any video, thats where the error pop out"

i have attached the lasted log if would like to take a look.

Anyway thanks your time to assist

Could be, cuz. if they only use modern ciphers, old sammy can’t grasp it.

As such, i set my PMS Secure connections to Preferred only, and in the orca client, made sure it was set to not use secure connections

@dane22

ok. it seems that change the Secure connections : Preferred in Setttings/Network and on the client uncheck the “use secure connection” Its working fine now,

The setting been the same till the update need the change to unsecure

maybe the 1.23.0.4459 update remove the use of TLS 1.0 n 1.1 after it eol

Anyway thank you. It resolve now :relaxed:

just to clarify what you mean by “orca client” do you mean the UI within the Plex APP launched on SAMSUNG Smart TV? Or is this something within the Samsung SmartHUB?
Is the “PMS Secure connections” set only at the server end?

I mean an old 3.Party client, that works for 2015- Samsung Smart TV’s
All Samsung +2015 TV’s use the official Plex Client

And if having an “old” pre 2016 TV, then hopefully it’s part of the Samsung SmartHub

Both…

On the PMS, it should be set to preferred, and on the Orca client, it should be set to not use secure connections

And FYI: Orca is the name of the 3.Party dev that made it
