Server Version#:latest from Plex website
Player Version#:
I had a problem that caused me to reinstall DSM on my DS718+. Now when I login to the plex app, it does not show me my media. I deactivated the device, logged out, and logged back in. The Synology no longer shows as being a recognized device although I did get am email from Plex stating that a login occurred on it.
I then uninstalled the Synology-provided Plex and installed the latest version from the Plex website. Same problem. I cannot get Plex to recognize my server. Any ideas?
here you go. One thing I noticed is that it while I can launch the Plex web interface from my Synology, the web interface doesn’t seem to see the server. I can’t find any app server settings outside of the Plex web (player?) interface.
Thank you for your help. I am now able to get to the server settings and add a library. However, I am not able to claim the server nor I am able to scan the library. I can hit the scan library function, but it doesn’t appear to be doing anything. The resource monitor on my Synology shows the CPU fluctuating between 0% and 1% so I can’t tell if the scan is working or not.
One other thing. When I go to claim the server, there is a check for newer version of software going on. It tells me there is one and I need to install it manually. The file that gets downloaded is the exact same name as the one I installed yesterday.
I’ve had Plex running for 8 or 9 months so that is why the logs may have older dates. I had a DSM failure a few weeks ago that caused me to reload a lot of things but it didnt cause me to reinitialize any of the storage.
Besides uninstalling, I manually deleted the files that were left behind.
I am still not able to claim the server. I did see that the scan completed and has populated the movie database, but very little artwork is showing. I’m also unable to play movies due to missing CODEC errors. Finally, i verified the SHA-1 checksum on a new download. Still says that I need to update. I also tried using the Synology-provided version and then update from it to the latest version. Same problems.
Did some upgrades to my network this week. All new cabling and a different brand of router. Problem still persists. It is definitely somehow related to being hosted on a Synology because I can install/run/operate Plex just fine off a Windows PC. I’ve gone through and tried the Synology approved package as well as the package off of this site. I am wondering if it is related to the Plex DOS attack I read about a few weeks ago. Has Plex patched that issue?
This is interesting. The new router has better logging capabilities. Looking at the logs, I can see Plex reaching out to an invalid IP address. It wants to go to 192.168.1.1 I’ve never used that network in my setup so I can’t figure out what it is trying to talk to. I checked my Synoligy settings and they are correct for my network. I am assuming it is Plex because as soon as I hit the CLAIM SERVER button, the log starts filling up with entries to that address.
Finally making some progress! Just noticed that a new package came out on the 9th. It fixed something because I can now claim my server. Now to see if it can download all the cover art and other goodies. Whatever was fixed, it is no longer reaching out to the invalid address.
