I have the Plex pass and a HDHomeRun. I cannot get anything to record. I have the TV Shows directory set to J:\dvr\recordings. This a 1 terabyte disk on my windows 10 box.
I got the set up to record a couple of shows that I picked at random last night but my pre-programmed setting to record the news fails every time. I just do not know what is wrong. I have tried recreating the dvr and but to no avail. Please help. I have some shows that I want to record coming up tomorrow which I am worried about.

Really need more information. Since you did not post the logs have you checked the Plex Media Server logs around the time of a failed recording? You mentioned the J:\ drive is a local drive. Is it internal or external? How is the drive formatted, NTFS, FAT32?

It is an NTFS internal drive.
I noticed something last night after posting my question.
I told the system to record a couple of random programs.
I did not see anything recording but I just left it. after the programs I noticed that a little while later the recordings showed up. Does Plex record a raw file first then process it into a watch file in a temp directory then copies it to the TV Shows directory.

Plex records small 1 second parts in the Transcoder folder. Once the recording ends it combines these one second files in the .grab folder and once all files are combined the file is sent to any post processing you may have in place before being moved from the .grab folder to the library.
Ok now I get another failure with two successes. Plex recorded the news (local and national) just fine but when it cam time to record NCIS it failed. Saying that it could not write to the directory. or could not find it. just don’t get it. Where are the logs located so that I can post them here.
