There could be something else in play but as I understand the tuner is now released when Plex determines the client is no longer active after 3 minutes. I tested this using my Roku Stick, started a Live TV session, saw the tuner active and then hit the home button. Monitored the tuner status in the Live TV & DVR settings and saw tuner still active. Roughly three minutes later the tuner was released. So it worked as expected on my system when it would not do this before. I also just tested using Google Chrome. Started a Live TV session and then closed browser tab. Plex kept tuner tied up even after 3 minutes. Had to close all tabs of Chrome, ensure that Chrome was no longer running and then several minutes later the tuner was released.
Holy God. I wish i had seen all this before i gave them $39 for a 1 year pass 2 days ago. Now only to find out it does exactly what everyone else is experiencing. Now, since Plex support seems not to care, i guess iāll right off the money, buy hdhomerun dvr package and build a NAS server for storage.
This entire situation sucks OUT LOUD. At this point, considering how wide spread this problem is and considering that Plex support damn well has known about it for almost a year, i can only conclude that Plex is stealing money from their customers buy taking money for plex pass.
Maybe TIVO in my future. $399 for lifetime TIVO or hdhomerun dvr and NAS server. Its a toss up for money.
Bout ready to just trash all of it and forget live tv OTA
Plex support, you should be ashamed of yourselves for not acknowledging this, and many other threads all over the web about this exact issue for this length of time.
Come on Plex! You can fix this.
I managed to fix this by unistalling Plex.
Removing the registry entry.
Removing the Plex folders.
Reinstalling and re setting up DVR.
Sure wish I could watch Shark Week. Plex refuses to tune just about every channel including Discovery. It worked last night but today I get āno parts.ā Updating and restarting PMS did not solve it. Restarting the HDHR tuner doesnāt help. Live TV has been a nightmare for so long⦠please make this suck less.
Same issue here in Australia as well with just one channel so far Channel 11 Sydney.
Not to pile on but Iām experiencing a very similar issue on v1.13.5.5291: scheduled DVR recordings occasionally fail. Afterwards, if I attempt to tune in to the channel on which the scheduled show is broadcast, Plex throws the following playback error:
Unable to tune channel (No parts)
The channel plays fine if I access the tuner directly using the HDHomeRun app.
Here are the relevant logs from the moment when the recording failed:

I have experienced this same issue⦠I switched from a haupage dual tuner to the hd homerun quatro, and i canāt watch anything now⦠The whole reason i changed was because the dual tuner wasnāt supporter for two tuners on linux which is what my server runs on.
Recently been getting exactly the same problem.
I was watching a recording and then it flashed across the screen ."ā¦xxxx failed. The recording was aborted".
I have an HDHomeRun Quatro and only one other show was recording at the time, so 3 tuners were available. Iād have to dig through the logs to see if it is the same errors as aaronwolen.
Iām seeing what may be a related issue. A little history, Iāve been using Plex for some time, Iāve tried Plex Pass and the DVR a few times, but itās never been a solid solution for me. I run 2 HDHomeRun Connect tuners (for a total of 4 OTA tuners) and my current live TV/DVR solution is the HDHomeRun DVR offering. My main PC (Windows 10) is where my recordings are done and we run an NVIDA Shield TV (Android TV) in the living room to watch TV, Plex, etc.
Earlier this month, when I saw the introduction of the guide, I tried Plex Pass and setup the DVR/TV setup in Plex, using my 2 HDHomeRun Connects. I disabled the HDHomeRun DVR setup and ran with Plex for a few days. It turned out the guide was not yet available on the Shield TV, behavior was flakey with is saying recordings were failing when I attempted to watch TV. We also saw a couple of recordings get dropped for no apparent reason, so we decided to give Plex more time to figure things out and went back to HDHomeRun DVR.
The problem Iām having now is that even through Iāve removed my tuners from Plex, it still seems to have itās hooks into the tuners. As a result, weāve run into issues where HDHomeRun DVR was recording 2 shows, but we could not watch live TV because it thought the tuners were in use. Later I found that Plex DVR is still recording shows (duplicates of ones we had setup and now have in HDHomeRun DVR).
Iāve searched all over on how to disable. Everything I see says I did what I was supposed to in deleting the tuners from Plex. I found others with similar issues, so for now Iāve done what others have done and stopped and renamed the Plex Tuner Service, in an attempt to get access to all 4 tuners in HDHomeRun DVR.
This seems to be at least somewhat related to what others are seeing, in relation to that service continuing to run, which makes it continue to grab tuners and for me, make recordings. Iāve looked for a way to delete the old recordings, but I canāt find a way. Iāve even tried to set the DVR back up in Plex, but I canāt get past the setup where itās trying to find the guide. At this point that process hangs indefinitely. Iād really hate to have to remove Plex to clean things up, because Iāve got a ton of time into setting up my movie and other libraries. But Iām afraid that may be my only option to truly clean this mess up.

I also am having this issue. It seems related to only channels that I DVR. I know it is PLEX related because my āLIVE Channelsā app on my NVIDIA Shields accesses the tuners/channels flawlessly⦠but if I try and access the same channel within PLEX the tuner errors out with the response, " Playback Error Unable to tune channel". Please help PLEX! I have deleted my DVR and reassembled⦠Works for a few days then wonāt tune the channel all, the recordings I have set error out. I have checked signal strength at my HDHR Prime/Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD and everything checks out. Very frustrating.
I solved this issue by rolling both my servers back to 1.13.7.5369 (have 1 server running a HDHR Prime for cable channels and another running a Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD for my OTA antenna. I run both just in case one or the other goes down/I decide to cancel cable subscription). The DVR functionality is now working property. Just roll PLEX back to version 1.13.7.5369, see: I need to rollback from the latest Plex update
