Unavailable content

Server Version#: 1.21.0.3616
Player Version#: 4.47.1

Hello, I’m having some trouble where my library says that content is unavailable yet it’s still accessible on the harddrive and even playable through plex if you just choose the episode

All episodes in the seasons are playable, i have already tried emptying the trash, but with no sucess.

Does anyone know why this error occurs? i suspect it is when i moved content from harddrive to harddrive but it doesn’t happen anymore. I first discovered this last year, but decided to ignore it, as it was just visually and did’nt actually impact the ability to view the content. But it really started bothering me more and more, and finally decided to make a forum post about it.

Thanks in advance!

Dive down into the seasons and seek out the episode posters with the trash can on them.
Take a look at the Plex media info of one such episode.
How many file paths are listed in there?
If there is more than one path listed, are they identical or different?
How many of them have the Unavailable stamp on them?

None of the episodes are unavailable/ have a trash can on them, its only the season posters. There are no duplicate episodes.

Edit your tv shows library
go to the ‘Add Folders’ tab
and inspect the file path in there.

Is there more than one path listed?
If so, are all of them

  • still existing
  • accessible to the plex server
  • not completely empty folders
    ?

All 3 paths are existing and accesible, and none of them are empty.

Try the new Trash filter (under Custom Filters).
Set the view mode to “Episodes” first.

No matches, this is a really bizarre issue.

How often do you scan your library?
Do you let it scan until it finishes or do you abort the scan?

Is the media storage unavailable at times, while the plex server is still running? (e.g. the NAS is switched off or goes into hibernation at night, or some network eqipment is switched off at night)

Have you tried to Refresh Metadata of one affected tv show (at its top level, not on a single episode, nor a single season)?

All storage is on local sata connected harddrives on the server and they are never unavailable. I almost never manually refresh library and i never cancel a scan (didn’t even know you could). The server restarts automatically every 24 hours and library scan interval is set to daily, and i don’t see what is supposed to interrupt it.

What do the Windows power saving settings say about spinning down hard drives after a while?
I had to disable that again on my Windows machine after a Windows upgrade enabled it without asking .

I only meant Refresh Metadata on one affected show, as a test.

Are you referring to this:

If so, it was set to 20 minutes. If that is the problem, i can’t seem to figure out how to disable it, do i set it to 0 or -1? or is it in another options panel?

My bad, i did actually start a refresh metadata when i received the reply, it’s still running right now.

0 means “Disabled”.

This may take a while.

Thanks, it’s set to never now.

Yes it probably will, there is alot of content, i will reply to this thread again when it decides to finish

@OttoKerner done with the refresh metadata, but unfortunately to no avail. The problem is still here.

Then do a normal “Scan library files” now.

Done, no changes.

Grasping at straws now:

  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. start Plex Server
  5. wait 5 minutes
  6. fetch log files and attach them here

Or inspect them yourself. Take a look at the Plex Media Server.log file and seek for messages about database corrupt or malformed.
If you find these, you may have to repair your database.

nothing

Since it’s straw-grasping time…

Try hiding seasons and then un-hiding them. This is controlled by the “Seasons” setting in the advanced tab when you edit the top-level of the show:

Set it to Hide and then save. View the show’s main page to make sure everything looks ok. Then, change “Seasons” to Show and see if that changed anything.

Or, try the nuclear approach and Plex Dance the affected seasons (or the entire show if that doesn’t help).
