"Unexpected Playback error" on all media

Server Version#: 1.41.6.9685 (Synology DS423+ running DSM 7.2.2-72806-3)
Player Version#: “Plex for LG, Client Version 5.91.0, Platform Version 9.2.1”

Re-raising of this issue where out of nowhere, attempting to play ANY content results in orange spinning loader for a ~30 seconds and an “Unexpected Playback error” - it has been intermittent for the past few months but seems to be happening more frequently now.
I’m not sure this is related to the LG platform itself but rather local network issues - am hoping the attached logs from when the issue was happening can help confirm?

Same here.
Unfortunately, it seems like there is no way for chuck to replicate the issue so he can’t help us.
My server is on a Synology NAS, too, so we may have the same problem.
Chuck suggested the script to increase the number of folders Plex can monitor.
I have tried it a few months ago, but it didn’t seem to work. So I have tried it again recently. I have had three “good days” in a row, but now the issue has come back again. I did not create any new media folder on my NAS in the meantime, so it wasn’t that.
.
I have also noticed that the server gets stuck on sonic analysis with a series of I/O errors.
The sequence of errors is always these:
1.
[Req#7148f/Transcode/06e23867-b1d8-43b3-aaab-654e390bc8a5/c1fef8bc-3b71-433d-9575-1f8329fd6fa4] [eac3_eae @ 0x7f3810668580] EAE timeout! EAE not running, or wrong folder? All my audio files are FLAC and of course I have plenty of space. Since the sonic analysis issue happens in the server, maybe it is a NAS server issue and not LG player’s (even though my PS5 Plex “works”, but it has so many issues itself - mainly with subtitles disappearing and video skipping - that it is not usable).
So it may have something to do with the transcoding of something that LG needs but PS5 doesn’t. I don’t know.

I cannot get any more info than these. Being a lifetime pass holder, and using Plex everyday, this is very frustrating. I have been messaging in private with Chuck with months now but, even though he has been kind and tried to be helpful, nothing he suggested worked.

i haven’t confirmed the number of folders on my NAS in a while, but I’m not sure that’s it for me - the issue seems way too inconsistent and “random” to be something that I would expect to cause issues a lot more of the time, for everyone using my library (not just me locally).

QED inconsistent: since posting about the issue a couple days ago, I haven’t seen it happen, and have watched several items (~6 hours of content) since then!

I am hoping the logs i attached are useful for @ChuckPa or expert someones to review.

@bradis1

Can you confirm server DEBUG logging is enabled and then recreate for me using H.264 media ?

Unfortunately the issue is wildly inconsistent but next time it happens, I will try that!
The last logs i uploaded were captured from the Plex Dash app on my Android while it was happening, after setting on the LG client, to log to server (i think i had verbose on for that, will ensure debug next time)
I will also be sure to follow your linked instructions for server-side debug logging.
Appreciate you taking a look!

The problems we’ve had with the GeminiLake GPUs have largely been with HEVC + tonemapping (the Intel Media Driver was never fully completed in the 4xxx CPUs before moving on to their bigger TigerLake series)

IMD and ICR will be updated in the near future after FFMPEG 6.1 is stable.
We’ll have a better base to work with than the current FFMPEG 4 base we have now

I can also confirm that the issue for me is also with H264 media (1080p, 4K SDR, 4K HDR) and FLAC files.
It has being a couple of day now that everything seems to work, but I know from experience that it possibly would not last.

Hi,

I’m not sure that we have similar issues, but I’m able to resolve mine so here my story:

About 3 weeks ago I bought a new TV, LG 65C4, and first two days was all fine with Plex.
Then next day I got the same error messages for all the media i have, 720p, 4k, HDR, no matter what try to play.
Long story short: then I turn OFF the ‘Quick Start+’ feature in WebOS settings - bc I read it this prevent the apps to close and can cause issues.
Since then the problem never happened again.

I don’t know how you use your setup, but I have an entry level Synology NAS (DS118) so i decode with the LG TV, maybe there is where the difference is and my solution is not yours, but worth a try I guess.

Cheers

Hi!
I will try, thank you. I am not so confident, though, because:

  1. The issue started a few months ago, with an update the same day of WebOs, PMS and LG Plex server.
  2. The issue comes and goes. I have had a good week and now it’s ten days that nothing works again.
  3. I get errors in the PMS console.

I also have a LG tv and the server is on a Synology NAS (DS 220+).

I have been in contact with Chuck privately and the problem is that the team seems unable to replicate the issue. Anyway, he’s been very kind and I really hope a fix is found soon.

UPDATE: I have just checked and I do not have the “Quick start+” option active on my TV set.

I started having the same issue two days ago (5/20/205) on my Sony Bravia TV. I am getting an unexpected error message playing media (TV series) that I was able to play the day before. Seems to be related to ACC 5.1 audio encoded files, but not always. I have tried checking the encode settings on my server (Asustor NAS) and the app but none of the things I see online about trying are available as options to me in the settings.

I’m at wits end and not sure how to proceed. I can’t even try rolling back my app on the TV to previous version.

Thanks

I am getting the same thing on my LG 65" OLED. Just started today. Was working fine yesterday. Hopefully this will get fixed soon.

Today I noticed if I play an ACC 5.1 audio track with commentary it plays, but if I switch to the standard ACC 5.1 tract it won’t play and I get the error. These files play fine on any of my devices g.on all audio tracks, just get this error on my Sony Bravia. So frustrated I’m considering other options…

Unfortunately, something went very wrong with Plex + LG and/or Nas several months ago. Despite on June Chuck was so kind to spend an entire evening chatting with me and trying to solve the issue (and it looked like it was solved at the time, even though I had to cancel my server and reinstall it), it still happens way too frequently..

I have to say that I am really discouraged, especially because I have a lifetime pass and everything was fine until it didn’t. Clearly something was changed and did not go well.

Hello,
Same problem for me since a few days and only on plex LG. No problem from Windows or Android or Android TV. After a lot of try I can sometimes play a movie but since I quit the app, problem is back.
Is that related to a plex app LG update ?
