Unmatched Tracks - Metadata format is correct!

WDMyCloudEx2Ultra with Plex

I have over 100 Unknown Artist tracks after scanning my music source files. I have checked the source files. They look fine. I am using dBPowerAmp to rip.

The metadata format, of unmatched tracks, is the same as properly matched tracks…within the same album.

How can I correct this? Do I need to re-rip these albums?

I have been spot checking the metadata on unmatched tracks. The format appears to match Plex rqmts as per a KB article on this subject.

I have been able to manually match a handful of files. I have performed a full library scan.

Is there a utility available that will allow me to access and view the metadata on unmatched files in a batch?

Just to be sure… you want Plex to identify your media based on the embedded metadata?

  1. what file type are you using?
  2. have you configured Plex to use the embedded metadata?

Thanks for the response.
Files ripped with dBPowerAmp.
Using Flac files.

Settings/MyCloudEx2Ultra/Agents -added Local Media Assets to Albums and Artist. It is in first position as per the KB. Rescanned the Library> No change, in fact lost one more album to Unknown Artists

Clicking in pinwheel icon of Local Media Assets for both Artist and Album, gives me an option to enter something into a textbox. What do I put there?

The KB refers to Use Embedded Tags setting. Cant find that setting. But I have selected Prefer Local Meta Data.

Almost seems like these changes haven’t been saved. Do I need to reboot something.

This should’nt be this difficult!! But I appreciate your help.

Plex should actually be able to pull the relevant information from Flac.
As you have already checked Advanced > Prefer local metadata the only thing coming to mind is that Plex does not automatically apply that to existing records.

There’s 2 scenarios to get this to work:

  1. easy way: refresh metadata for your library
  2. if #1 doesn’t work you might need to re-scan the files; for this to work, you’ll first need to make Plex forget it already knows the files (and has them incorrectly matched). To achieve that, you’ll need to perform a “Plex Dance” → remove the files from the folder monitored by Plex, scan the library for updates, empty trash / clear caches, return the files to their supposed location, scan for updates again

Definitely give #1 a try first

Edit:

You can define some additional path for Plex to look for related music videos. (if you have music videos that are not stored inside your regular music folder organization).
From https://support.plex.tv/articles/205568377-adding-local-artist-and-music-videos/

In the Local music video path field, specify the full filesystem path to the location of where your music videos are stored

I have done metadata refresh many times already. It runs for 10 secs and stops. That hardly seems seems long enough to correct 100 + mismatches. Oddly enough, I have successfully fixed 1 mismatch-manually. If I have tried 10 or so this way, only 1 worked. Does that give you any insight?

I assume there is no feature that performs a complete database rewrite??? This might be a good thing to have…

So I guess I go to #2

Get back to you later today. Thnx.

Ran Refresh Metadata. Went to Status>Alerts to notice activity. Let it run until it “seemed” to finish.

Library still had the Unknowns. Decided to try manual match on a couple. Noticed that Local Media Artist is not an Agent in matching this way. Seriously?

Went to the Library to notice that Prefer Local Media was NOT set. I had set that. Very confused.

Now Alerts is showing:

2:02PM Library scan complete: Extra information may still be downloading from the Internet

…and Scan continues.

Is this normal activity???

After running a Refresh Meta Data and a Scan I see this in Status>Alerts.

  • 4:05PM Opened connection to MyCloudEX2Ultra, listening for events.
  • 4:05PM Unable to listen for events on MyCloudEX2Ultra.

I assume the Refresh and Scan are done.

I ran Analyze and watched the system scroll through all tracks A-Z including all Unknowns.

So I have 110 Unknowns. No improvement.

Now I dance. Plex has to find a better way to do this…

I have completed The Plex Dance in so far as moving source files and running a new Scan
Erased Trash. Cleaned Bundles. Optimized the database.

Out of curiosity, I opened my Library to find my music files. When I tried to play one, it failed,of course, since there are no source files.

If I have just cleaned out the database, why are there still files???

I will proceed no further until I hear back from you. Thnx.

In addition to my last reply, I can add that I deleted the Library. Moved source files back to the source folder on my NAS and re-scanned.

Result: The library is almost 100%. But I still see 4 Unkown and Unmatched Artists/Albums.

So my question: When I try to do a Fix Match on these 4 items, I never see the option to select Prefer Local Metadata. Why? wouldn’t that resolve my issue?
Thanks.
