Untrustworthy "Not available outside your network"

Server Version#: 1.41.8.9834 on MacMini Sequa 15.5
Manually specified public port: 32400
Secure Connection: Required
Nokia Beacon G6: Up/Down 500 Mbps, static IP w/ UPnP

Why does Plex NOT play remote in browser on Chrome OS Flex; “Cannot connect securely”, but plays fine on an iPhone (in both app & browser).

Server Version#: 1.41.8.9834 on MacMini Sequa 15.5
Why does remote access always change to “Not available outside your network” after about 30 sec, yet my iPhone (both App & browser) always plays fine in the next county? This makes it hard to troubleshoot Plex will NOT play remote on Chrome OS Flex

Mod Edit: Combined posts as they both regard remote access. @FordGuy61

Plex Forums: The Basics of Remote Access Troubleshooting

Remote access is never working.

When Plex initially says remote access is working, it is really just trying to enable it. When that process fails, usually after about 30 seconds, it returns to the “not available..” message.

For remote access to work, your router must support either UPnP or port forwarding.

Your other devices are most likely connecting via Plex Relay. The stream is tunneled through a server at Plex and id limited to 2 Mbps.

Monitor streaming via Plex Dashboard → Now Playing + Expanded View.

If the connection is Indirect, then it is using Plex Relay.

I was just dealing with this same situation, Plex would switch from remote access green, ‘fully available’ to Plex saying in red, remote access was ‘not avaialble’, after trouble shooting in about 30 sec. Yet it was available with people accessing my PMS and content at speed greater then 2Mbps and and it was not using Relay to access my content (Remote and Direct Access). After trying all forum and help page changes with no success, I gave up for a few days trying to figure this out.

I went out of town for 5 days. Did not touch any settings what so ever before I left and before I left it still said, in RED “Not available outside your network”. Reguardless, it was still reachable and people were listed as accessing at rates higher then 2 Mbps and the connection was listed as Direct, or Remote, but not via Relay. So they were not accessing via the Relay feature. When I came back Monday, the Remote Access page indicates in GREEN, “Fully accessible outside your network” and has stayed that way ever since. I have made no changes what so ever other then the steps I took before I walked away from it for a few days. I was not listed as accessable before I walked away. I don’t understand unless the PMS was actually fully accessible previously, even though it was saying on the Remote Access page that is wasn’t. This was some very unneeded stress trying to get this figured out. Is it a known issue where the Remote Access page indicates Not available outside your network when it actually is and just displays the wrong status for some reason?

Well it’s working now and displays that is it too, so I am happy about that.

Thanks for the support (that I’m NOT goin’ crazy). [FordGuy61] would suggest the screen message should initially say, “Trying to enable remote access…”. [Andrebuster] instead shows it is simply never trustworthy.
BTW: I had a static IP and UPnP enabled. When I disable Relay (gotta remember to SAVE), assign my MacMini (server) an IP, and set up port 32400 for External & Internal (TCP & UDP), and restarted the server, I STILL cannot connect with my iPhone outside of WIFI - server is “Offline”.

In Settings → Remote Access, does Plex show it is available outside your network (continuously, not just for a couple minutes).

If not, then remote access is not working.

When using manual port forwarding (not UPnP) be sure to check the box for “Manually specify public port.” That tells Plex to use the specified port. If unchecked, Plex tries to use UPnP.

To check if the port is open, use a site such as canyouseeme.org. Plex must be running for the test to work.

FYI, Plex uses TCP for remote access. Forwarding UDP neither hurts nor helps.

At the moment remote access is not available and I am viewing my content from my smartphone with 5g (relay switched off).
