Update 1.23.6.4810 fails to install and then disables Plex entirely

Running
Server Version#: QNAP TVS-1282T3, running QNAP firmware 4.5.4.1723

Installed PlexMediaServer-1.23.6.4810-15ce0e21a-x86_64.qpkg this morning.

The package sits in “Uploading and processing” state for 5 minutes, then I get a failed import error.

Plex then becomes completely unresponsive. QNAP indicates the service is running, but none of my media is accessible (via app.plex.tv in web browser).

Subsequent reboots of the NAS haven’t fixed anything.

I backed up everything in the PlexData folder. Do I need to remove Plex altogether and then do a fresh package install or will there be a new package that ships that will actually complete the “Uploading and Processing” process?

Thanks!

They just released a new version which solves a startup database problem.

Just spotted that you are referring to 1.23.6 which is beta.

So my previous reply may help but not for the reason I wrote.

Do you have a link for download?

Actually, got it! Thanks!

Good luck!

Actually, no dice. Continues to just hang on the “Uploading and Processing” screen.

Where in the logs should I look for why it’s hanging? Or should I just upload all of my logs here?

Upload them here. @ChuckPa will no doubt help.

Here you go, @ChuckPa . Much appreciated.

  1. You can turn off VERBOSE logging & click SAVE. Verbose makes my job harder.
  2. You have the same machine I do so something is amuck there.
  3. Do you have an older version you can load ? 1.23.4 ?

(You should get in the habit of keeping a few in a “software” shared folder)

I have 1.23.4 but when I try to load older versions using QNAP install manually, it does the same hanging.

Is there a way to switch off VERBOSE not in the user interface? I can’t even get into server manager screen.

Good taste, by the way.

I have yet to just remove the App from App Center. Not sure what the implications are there.

OK, I was able to get 1.23.4.4712 to work.

QNAP just did a firmware update last week which I installed. I’m wondering if the newest version of QNAP’s firmware has issues with the way it handle’s Plex’s packages.

@ChuckPa If you see anything, let me know. Will turn off verbose and give it a couple days before trying a 1.23.6 build.

Direct automatic access to the PMS install – wherever it is.

  1. Create shared folder named PlexData anywhere you want
  2. Attempt to start PMS
  3. Stop PMS
  4. File Station → PlexData → Plex Media Server will now always point to where PMS is installed. ( this works for all versions since 1.15 )

Uninstalling the app does not remove the data like it does for other QNAP apps.
I made this custom change because, while Synology works that way, QNAP doesn’t and folks were losing ALL their customizations.

If you truly want to force it to start over, the PlexData share is how you can without getting into the QPKG directory via SSH.

To change logging options, specifically turn VERBOSE off

  1. Install QNAP Text Editor app.
  2. PlexData → Plex Media Server
  3. Right-click Preferences.xml
  4. On the last line, cursor right to the />
  5. Inside that closing marker type logVerbose="0"
  6. It should look like: somePref="value" logVerbose="0" />
  7. Save the file.

Pepperoni Pizza or the TVS-1282T3?

It’s a little old-school :pizza: style I grew up with.

Think you call it “Chicago style” (or upside down); thinner crust with the cheese on the bottom, then the thinned-out (a bit) sauce with Shallots, Sausage, and Shrooms on top. It droops a bit but still a light crunch as you bite in.

Just getting back. I took some much needed time away… I found 350+ posts to respond to. :frowning:

TVS-1282T3 ships out Monday. 12-14 day ETA on the turnaround time.

sounds good to me.

Good. Well deserved, I’m sure.

I deleted 100 duplicate posts and now I have 400?

@JSanders4243

I would try for you but my QNAP is now at UPS; destination Pomona, Ca, USA.

401 now…
